What's your point?

people are dieing at a much faster rate from this flu, than usual. Particularly children...are you disputing that or are you suggesting its no big deal because of the % it equated too?

My wife and I went to the BMO Centre yesterday afternoon for the sex show, so she decided to get her shot while on the Stampede grounds as she has chronic asthma. No lineup at all, she had to show some medication with her name on it, and then she went to one of several empty desks for her shot.

I was shocked how quiet it was. I didn't ask, but was hoping someone would suggest, "Hey, while you're here with your wife, do you want a shot?" It's not like they couldn't have taken care of me without making anyone wait.

You should have asked, I've heard first hand that they have done that here in Edmonton.

Got my shot this morning. (Sunday) Virtually no line up at all, the longest thing was the paperwork. Plus able to sneak in my gf and her son even though they didn't fit the criteria 100% (Though they did have important reasons). I think it's getting to the point were it's slowed down enough that if you have a good reason to be there they'll let you in, they don't really care as long as your not holding it up for high risk people.

I want to thank everyone who did the responsible thing by getting the shot. Yeah there's controversy like everything nowadays, but not having to live through epidemics like polio I think this generation has gotten a little silly with getting things like vaccines and innoculations. It really is the best defense on a personal and community level. And any risks involved in it are far less than the alternatives.

I just wish I didn't have to waste my taxpayer money on people's hospital bill if they were able to get the shot and refused it. They should have to pay back the healthcare system for there hospital stay if required.

If you got the shot and still get sick (which is possible) and require hospitalization that I consider that different.

I don't get the regular flu shot because I've never required special help when contracting that however, this flu is straining the healthcare system and all these people refusing to get the shot just don't seem to get it.

I've got my shot just over 2 weeks ago, I should be immune to it but with that being said that's not going to change how I go about my daily business. I will still try to stay away from getting sick.

I have asthma and I just don't know what this will do to me. Most likely nothing, but I really don't want to test it.

I love the car accident comment, that is classic, it makes me laugh how some people are just not that smart.

It makes me laugh when people have to resort to personal insults to try and get their point across. Not that smart? Shame on them for using statistics to realize that H1N1 simply isn't as life or death as some people make it sound. Not that smart, are you sure you didn't mean to say it's great that some people are simply not that scared?

Unfortunately for the Man, Mrs. Impaler and I are just in the process of re-watching the old X-Files dvd's, so there is no chance of us falling for this government/media/pharmaceutical industry conspiracy.

I went saturday morning and the from the time I arrived to line up for the paper work to the time I left, 40 minutes elapsed. That was it. I went to the Avenida mall location.

Err, I mean I had to submit my 111 page request for a vaccine to my socialist government last december and then after attending biweekly death panel meetings to determine whether or not I should get the shot, the government and my state-chosen doctor said I could wait in a 12 hour line to be vaccinated.

Seriously, after the debacle that was the Alberta government's handling of the initial vaccines, everything is running smoothly now.

I would like the same for people who smoke, drink, don't exercise, don't eat properly, don't wear sunscreen, drive without a seat belt, etc, etc, etc.

Oh of course it is different, if it fits your view on the subject it's gotta be different. I say you should be SOL as well, you obviously did something that attracted the flu to you.

Shame on you. I hope you aren't wasting my tax payer dollars going to the clinic when you get sick and need medicine or the help of a doctor.

Thank you. Show me stats that prove H1N1 is more dangerous than driving and I will get in line tomorrow. If not, shut you mouth I know I'm s-m-r-t. Hopefully you and your family take perfect care of yourselves, if not I hope you don't ever visit a clinic, emergency room or hospital in your life time.

If you're driving while dying from H1n1 and get into a crash and then die, I think you become a stat for "auto accidents", but even adjusting for that, I think this is a nice graphic in the link below.

http://www.dump.com/2009/11/03/morta...n-perspective/

Apparently there's alot more deadly things out there at any given time.
Also I'll be looking for updated graphs/stats as time goes on and the pandemic actually kicks into high gear and the call of "Bring out your dead ! " rings through the streets of every major city in the world.

Apparently, the flu season for H1N1 is now on the down swing... the season was expected to peak the first week on November and then fall off by the middle of the month.

That is not to say that people can't catch it any time, but I wouldn't expect it to kick in to a higher gear unless the predicitions end up being wrong of course.

OTTAWA -- Despite the recent surge in H1N1 deaths, the nation's chief public health officer says the pandemic virus appears no deadlier than regular seasonal influenza and that there could actually be substantially fewer flu deaths than normal this season. Although H1N1 is disproportionately infecting more children and otherwise healthy young adults, "the mortality rate from this (H1N1) is no worse than seasonal flu," Dr. David Butler-Jones said in an interview with Canwest News Service.

A case of ageism? Where have all the media reports been when old people die.

Got mine last Tuesday (asthma) and kids are getting it tomorrow. Wife will not be able to get the vaccine anytime soon down here in the States. If you think Canada has a shortage it's nothing compared to the States. If I'm not mistaken Canada has nearly as many doses on order as the States despite having a tenth of the population.

Sure they pay a tax. I pay a tax on almost everything I buy, so no complaints when I'm chillin' in the ICU with piggy flu.

It looks likes one of the batches of flu vaccine was re-called in Canada due to a higher than normal rate of adverse reactions.

http://ca.news.yahoo.com/s/reuters/0..._us_flu_canada

Fortunately, the people recovered.. but it serves as an example of why it pays to be cautious. If they can't foresee the short term risks, then what do they know about the long term risks of a bad batch of vaccine?
