The only thing diminishing his 'actual' value is the fact the Flmaes have him locked in, and in the end, can determine if he plays this year or not. If you base his value on his performance, franchise value, marketability, he's well worth every penny of 8 million.

If Gaudreau were a UFA that could sign anywhere, I have no doubt in my mind some team somewhere would sign him for north of $8. Every July 1st we see teams that over pay for a player because there is a bidding war or at least the perception of a bidding war.
But changing the parameters that define his value and then reassessing his value based on those new parameters is a circular argument that this thread has gone down before.
Furthermore, we all agree that Johnny is a special player that will probably contend for hardware in the coming years. That is exactly why the team is trying to sign him to a long term deal now rather than a bridge deal. No one is trying to argue that he is not that good of a player or that he's going to decrease in value.
The two things that have perpetually been up for debate in this thread is A) How much impact does a future 90+ point winger have on overall team success, and B) How much leverage does either side have in determining "fair market price".

Just poking fun at that article talking about reasons why Gaudreau's camp would be in a position to have a smile on their face and one reason was the flames dropped two preseason games to the oilers

Has anyone made the joke about Ken King saying it will happen soon and his years of saying the arena plans coming soon?

That is not his value though, that's over-payment. There is a big difference.
The reason UFAs make big dough is that teams can acquire an asset for free. And thus they are willing to overpay for them.
If Gaudreau were to suddenly become a UFA, I have no doubt that there would be teams that would pay $8M and probably more.
So what?
We could say the same for Monahan - if he suddenly became a UFA, some team(s) would have surely paid more than $6.375M for him. That doesn't mean the Flames underpaid him or ripped him off.
The RFA rate for him is less than the UFA rate. And that is a simple, but undisputable, fact.
Some agents and players don't accept that, but that is on them because that's the way it is.

IF Gaudreau could sign anywhere, he would be an unrestricted free agent and the FLAMES would be the team offering him $8-8.5 mil.
But he ain't and, therefore, the Flames ain't.

Gaudreau has had a career change. Nabbing distracted drivers from a higher view. Can't help but think there was probably a booster chair required despite being at a higher height.

"We've had excellent results, above our expectations," said Gaudreau.
"The seat belt also, it surprised us to see how much, especially drivers of heavy vehicles, are still at fault," said Gaudreau.

http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/j...-asking-trade/
Quote:
The agent for unsigned Calgary forward Johnny Gaudreau broke his silence on Sunday, indicating his client is not asking for a trade from the Flames.
“No,” Lewis Gross answered, when asked if Gaudreau wants to follow the path of another unsigned free agent, Winnipeg’s Jacob Trouba.
Could we see a point where that changes?
“We have no intention of asking for a trade at this time,” he replied. “He wants to stay in Calgary.”

Mony cant be too pleased that he took a paycut while Johnny and his agent are going though lengths to milk as much as they could.
So im assuming that talk involved a collar grab, a slam against the wall and a pen shoved in johnny's face. Bro lovingly-like of course
