If anyone hasn't checked out that HF boards initial thread on this trade, you should do so. It's very entertaining.

The standouts for me;

The sheer volume of posts, like 160 in the first 3 minutes of the rumor, 1000 posts in the first hour, of just sheer disbelief, frustration and anger. "Whhhhaaat, I would have happily given up the 7th overall +++" types of posts.

The fans laughing that if anyone made up that offer prior to yesterday the mods would have locked it immediately for being stupidly unrealistic.

Everyone laughing at Bruins fans who were before laughing at everyone's proposals for Hamilton. They were specially mocked for jumping all over fans who had suggested Hamilton to Arizona for the 3rd overall, suggesting Arizona would have to add.

The fact that in typical HF fashion, no one outside Flames fans seemed to even know who our GM is. Every singly post either referred to the Flames in general terms "The Flames just fleeced the Bruins" or gave Burke credit for the trade (this was very common).

And my personal favorite (anyone who's been there knows those guys treat draft picks like gold and way over value them compared to picks), the guy who posted; "Wow, when HF sides with the team that gave up picks, you know it's a one sided trade!".

Basically it was a month of Bruins fans mocking everyone and laughing off every proposal, and in the process convincing themselves that if they lost Hamilton it would be for anyone Boston wanted outside of the top 2, PLUS add ins. Followed by the Flames grabbing him for an offer that would have been deleted on their site for being absurd. Hahaha, so awesome.

I like how they cropped the photo to make it look like he's giving their fans the finger.

So, the Flames fleeced the Bruins so hard, that an Oilers' fan on HF thinks Treliving "pull[ed] off some Patriots like shenanigans".

Amidst all of this you have to feel for the players the Bruins took with those picks from the trade.

They'll forever be linked to one of the most negative moments in team history and will never be given a fair shake by the fan base. "They better all be superstars or I'll hate you forever."

Best of luck Zachary Senyshyn, Jakub Forsbacka Karlsson and Jeremy Lauzon. You're going to need it.

Honestly, if those had been our picks, I would have liked that. Yes, even Senyshyn (although I would've probably traded down to 20 or so to pick him if that was the #1 guy on the list)

Hamilton is just better.

Not to mention I think Bruins fans already hate Zboril and Debrusk in addition to Zach Senyshyn. I actually like Zboril. But Debrusk and Senyshyn. That high? No words really

Iggy is so signing his last contract with Calgary to retire as a Flame, even if it's just a symbolic one like Alfredsson

If anyone wants to revisit the glory of this trade, the /r/hockey thread is gold

http://www.reddit.com/r/hockey/comme...ught_hamilton/

That first comment perfectly sums up every Flames fans reactions upon hearing about the trade and then the details later

If he plays this good on his weak side wouldn't he be even better on the left side?

Here's that audio interview with Conroy.
Based on what he says there, the deal got finalized either Thursday night or Friday morning. He says he went to bed when Brad was still waiting for a call back. Then, when he walked in for breakfast, Treliving told him the deal was done.

If that's true, all the rumours Dreger/Sather were spreading about the Flames offering up two seconds for Talbot on Friday were total BS. Either Treliving was helping Sather to work the Oilers to drive up the price or Sather was just fabricating the Flames' interest.

Either way, I approve.

I think that is more a product of playing with Engelland than it was a product of him switching sides.
