Again, a big middle finger to the former GM was in play I think. Sure, offers may have been higher first rounders, but maybe another pick, and not even as high as 2nd round, let alone 2.

Can another team still offer sheet him? Or not till July 1st?

These little pithy posts are great.

When I hit post the last post was saying they couldn't talk before the trade went down... No need to get all visceral.

I love, love, love this trade.
Flames are already quite deep in Forward prospects (Bennett, Poirier, Klimchuck, Shore, Jankowski, etc) and if we took one at 15th, just adds a bit to that. If we take D at 15 (which arguably we should given shallow prospect depth), that player will take several years to develop (and may never). Instead we leverage assets to get a bonafide top pairing defensemen (who is young) and now we arguably have three number 1 D-men! Two of whom are under 25.
Wow!

Perhaps Treliving promised Sweeny a signed pair of Jiri's shoes next time he is in town.

May open the door even wider for a Wideman trade now, though...

A deal where we benefit huge, lose some lottery tickets, AND give the middle finger to the Oilers? Win.

Getting Hamilton is great and all, but we just traded for his RFA rights. I'm worried about the contract and/or getting and getting an offer sheet

That's a done deal. Though I still don't like paying Dougie more than Brodie. It's like the Hawks paying Seabrook more than Keith.

I'll take 4 Oiler first rounders for Hamilton. This is the Oilers we're talking about, we'd likely be getting top 3 picks for the next 4 years.

If Edmonton is the team they wouldn't trade with, it will just be icing on the cake. OMFG that would be fantastic.
