I imagine it would be because they'd be willing to pay closer to what he's asking for.

I think Buffalo is the only team where they should consider dealing it to get a guy like Lindholm or Hanifin. NHL owners can be finicky and demand results immediately leading to fast tracking mistakes which we've continuously seen in the league, so who knows?
I could see Buffalo being interested in Hanifin. They seem pretty set at center, so lindholm doesn’t make much sense.

Using that framework as a model...

Washington: Hanifin for #8 OA + Connor McMichael + Vincent Iorio + Anthony Mantha ($5.7Mx1)

Buffalo: Hanifin for #13 OA + Jiri Kulich + John Peterka + Victor Olofsson ($4.75x1)

Pittsburg: Hanifin for #14 OA + Samuel Poulin + Tristan Broz + Mikael Granlund ($5Mx2)

Seattle: Hanifin for #20 + Jagger Firkus + Ryker Evans + Ty Nelson

Lindholm is “in the oven, will it rise?” I think this is similar to what other people are reporting. Calgary has offered a deal 100% but it’s fair but not what the player is asking… I’ve herd it’s less than Horvat…. Feels like Taylor Hall all over again let’s just hope he doesn’t over play his hand. Conroy is not bluffing and his deadline is approaching… Team heads to Nashville Monday morning. IF a trade comes down it will be significant lots of teams want to know before the first round starts. Extension or not. Seattle, Carolina, Dallas, Columbus…
Seattle: Lindholm for Shane Wright + David Goyette

Carolina: Lindholm for #30 OA + Seth Jarvis

Dallas: Lindholm for Lian Bischel + Logan Stankoven + Christian Kyrou + Jamie Benn ($9.5x2) Benn is immediately flipped with retention for other assets

Columbus: Lindholm for Cole Sillinger + David Jiricek + Jack Roslovic ($4Mx1) Roslovic flipped at the deadline for other assets

The Flames usually announce business transactions during the week anyways. I can’t remember the last time they did any trades during a weekend

Every time I think I’m a pretty big fan I just have to look at this site to see I am just a small timer as far as knowing minute details about this team.

I wouldn't worry about it - I was full of !@#$ just now. They apparently acquired his rights on a Saturday...

June 27, 2009 was the 178th day of the year 2009 in the Gregorian calendar. There were 187 days remaining until the end of the year. The day of the week was Saturday.

Between this horrid mistake and forgetting Arizona isn't in the pacific division anymore...I'm having a Senior Sunday morning

I like all except the Dallas one. From Dallas I’d want Johnston and Benn for Lindholm. Would happily take Benn as a stopgap while grabbing Johnston. Could probably do Backlund for that instead of Lindholm.

Lindholm to Detroit for 18th++ would work. I’d ask Seattle for Wright first though.

I guess it could be worse by demanding play-offs all the time, not allowing rebuilds but also being unwilling to spend?

Seems like an unlikely situation but that could be slightly worse although with the same results at the end of the day.

Since Lindholm and Hanifin cannot sign a new deal with Calgary until after the draft, a sign and trade deal cannot include a 2023 draft pick.

My point is that such a trade could not include 2023 draft picks.

Why not?

If the team has a deal in agreement with the agent/player why couldn't they make the deal before the draft and then sign the deal on July 1?

Sure it can. It’s an asset that can be moved. The receiving team would have to have something to protect them from the player “changing their mind” but a team wanting to trade for either player can include the 2023 pick if they so desire. If it’s for a 2024 1st, the price goes up dramatically IMO. 2024 is a middling to poor draft pool and you’re giving the team that acquires either player a chance to overperform and drive the value of the pick even lower. Need more coming back then.

He's saying it can. A deal can be worked out and they could make the trade this second. If both parties agree to the contract they wont back out in bad faith, they both want it.

Exactly, the draft is June 28. They have to wait all of 2 days to annouce and because it's a year early they can sign the 8 year deal too.
