Kinda reminds me of Warrener randomly bringing up Sutter on the radio in the days before the Flames hired him earlier this year
There's probably other examples of the 960 guys planting the seed before something happens

Thats my thoughts. Blow the futures wad, recoup assets by moving the core guy Eichel is taking the place of.
I dont think we exceed the 10 percent over the cap rule if they made the move tonight. So there's wiggle room.

I think he'd be a piece to go with Pelletier and the rest of the package.

I agree. The only scenario I’m moving Tkachuk is if Jack Eichel is coming back. That’s it. I have no appetite to trade Tkachuk at all, but you have to give quality to get quality. Eichel is the only player in the league that is realistically available who is worth giving up Tkachuk.

To be fair, Seattle didn’t take on any cap in the expansion draft so it’s possible he was never in their plan more due to salary then anything else

Is there a real chance the Flames actually trade for Eichel? That would be amazing. It’s a given the amount we send to Buffalo will hurt…a lot. It should because Eichel is an incredible player.

Good thing you put initials for Gaudreau and Lewis because I wouldn't have know which ones you meant.

That is a solid looking lineup.
I still dream they can do a 3 way trade that has Monahan as the big cap that goes out.
To Ottawa: Monahan
To Calgary: Eichel
To Buffalo: Dube, Valimaki, Brannstrom, Flames 1st, Ottawa 2nd
Gaudreau-Eichel-Tkachuk
Mangipane-Lindholm-Coleman
Lucic-Backlund-N.Ritchie
Pelletier(rookie spot)-Lewis-Pitlick
B.Ritchie
Hanifin-Tanev
Zadorov-Andersson
Mackey-Vatanen
Kylington
Might want to do some work on the blueline still but I LOVE that top 9

I doubt Lewis will be playing center. He's probably going to be playing 4RW.
And I also doubt Lindholm ever plays RW for Sutter. Sutter didn't seem to be a fan of Monahan at center down the stretch, even putting him on Ryan's wing. Contrast that with Lindholm who was basically Sutter's 1C.
I'd probably expect something closer to
Gaudreau - Eichel - Mangiapane
Tkachuk - Lindholm - Phillips
Coleman - Backlund - Pitlick
Lucic - Dube - Lewis

I think the return will be something like Tkachuk, Dube, 2022 1st, Zary. It’s gonna hurt a lot if we get Eichel.
Let’s do a three-way trade with Buffalo and St. Louis. It just makes so much sense.

|
If you offered Gaudreau to Colorado and TB at the trade deadline, they’d make it work. Edmonton too.
Teams that are going for it are going to be happy to trade for him at the deadline. At 50% retained, they need 800k in cap space to trade for Gaudreau.

If Monahan’s 100% or close to it, I bet he goes back to centre. Sutter only had Monahan at wing for a game and IMO that was to shelter him from taking more abuse.

One of the interesting things with Eichel is because he's going to be out for at least the first half of the season, can't his cap hit be put on LTIR?
Would this be an advantageous situation as the Flames could maybe get away with only trading Mangiapane or even Dube and keeping both Monahan and Tkachuk?
I know you can't bank LTIR space, but it does give the team more time to deal with the cap. Maybe even build up Monahan and Tkachuk's value with a stronger start before trading them?

Thinking about this a bit more on the fact that no offers have really been leaked from any team other than the asking price from Buffalo.
I'm wondering if teams are asking for other roster players along with Eichel seeing as he would be out for a while.

I have no desire to empty the cupboard for Eichel. Hell, we have no idea if he will recover. I wonder how many of you'll be screaming if he flops.
