that's where it kinda gets iffy and pro scouts get involved etc. there's a lot more layers to it. kinda like renovating a house or building fresh from the ground up. you'd like to think you can renovate a house to be as good as the one built from scratch but often times, it's just not the same.

Yeah has to be a list of x number of players from drafts say 2020-2023 that the scouts wished they'd gotten their hands on.

I always thought our pro scouts are not good. Especially to find young player that who is looking for opportunity in other teams.
But lately it sounds Treliving made Main decisions about trade returns and free agents. So I hope Conroy listen more his pro scouts when he is dealing.

Look no further than the players he went and got when he joined Toronto.

Yeah the more I hear about Treliving the more I think he really trusted Conroy, Pascall, Button and the amateur scouts to help with the decisions on drafting and doing the amateur leg work.
But when it came to the actual roster and the Flames team those decisions were more made by him. Also appears like we had a really small pro scouting group which they really added to once Conroy became GM.

I would agree with this, if our amateur scouts were like “ya we really wanted Buick in 2021 but he was gone by the time we picked at 45” or “we really like Wallinder but he was long gone by our pick at 50” that would be totally fine. If it is a situation where it is just a former high pick from an organization that has a terrible track record of finding players with their high picks that would be more dubious.

Not going to get anything significant back if they're not dangling their 1st. Nobody wants their prospects. Wonder if they'd try to move Bouchard.

Leafs officially move Klingberg to LTIR. Luckily enough for them that solves all their cap problems! It's almost as if this is exactly what they wanted...

Looking at the Oilers...
They have their 1st in 2024, 2025, and 2026.
2nd in 2024 and 2025.
Honestly I'd be asking for their unprotected 2026 1st. If Leon and McDavid leave then that pick will be valuable.

Inflated one dimensional stats.
Edmonton consistently overvalues all their prospects, nothing will happen until it’s completely evident their assets are worth nothing.

Don't know if they can swing the type of trade that changes their fortunes without making their 1st available
The current prospects are 1b/1c types at best.

I agree. Their best bet is to trade their first and have it top 5 protected. Teams might pay up hoping that it's still a top 10 pick.
They have nothing to offer in players especially with Holloway out long term again. 2nds can dd you nice pieces but not if you have to dump salary back.

I was playing "spot things with any monetary value" and I must say it was challenging lol
Just like GMs looking at the Oilers organization outside of McDrai
