Poor Butler just sitting around at home, oblivious to the hate he drew as a Flame…

Of all the people to pick out of a hat and add to your hate list.

That guy was pathetic. I can't believe he played on the 1st pairing with Bouweester. and such a punchable face!

It was a -7, which tied an NHL record. Flames lost 0-9 against Boston. I believe Brodie was even that night, despite playing quite a bit - that was when he earned my respect.

Agreed on Butler, he's one of my least favorite Flames of all time. I once got into an argument with someone on HF Boards who said Butler could play in any teams top-4 in the league- I provided a list of each team's top-4 to refute him, and other posters started jumping on me. I haven't been back on that site since, as they are all morons.

Oh my god, my night was going so good until I was randomly reminded about Butler.

Thanks a lot

“Butler tied a dubious plus-minus record, finishing -7 during a January 5, 2012 game against the Boston Bruins.” - Wikipedia

The Butler did it

All I remember about Butler is how hated he was here and Roger Millions tried to suggest he's well respected in the league and would get a good return if traded.

Flames let him walk and got a one year two-way deal from the Blues.

Apparently, one good thing about Butler was that he was a jokester, and players liked him. I think he was one of the prime suspects behind the "Boring Sean Monahan" account.

Butler was a defencemen that was vastly overplayed relative his ability. I can't hate him for that. Did he try? Yes. Was he a problem off the ice? No. Did he talk poorly about the team, the city or the fanbase after he left? No. I have no reason to hate him.

I can, however, choose to hate Brent Sutter for overplaying him constantly. I can blame Feaster for bringing him in originally. I just don't see the point of hating or blaming players like Butler or Hulse who tried, but were just overplayed (or not NHLer's to begin with) and were constantly underwater.

Someone like James Neal? Yeah, easier for me to hate, especially at the very end with his screaming match with Peters in the playoffs demanding more ice time even though he posted a sparkling 0PTS playing alongside Gaudreau and Monahan after every penalty kill. Then proceeds to not try on a backcheck, with his man scoring the winning goal.

So when it comes to Butler, I can either blame the GM for bringing him here, or not bringing in better options to displace Butler, and/or I can hate the coach for overplaying Butler. I did, however, dislike his play. LoL

Jim Parsons (???) of the Hockey News links the Flames to Igor Shesterkin should he become available in free agency next summer, as the Rangers have yet to sign him to an extension.

I can't imagine the Flames have had any serious thoughts about that yet. They have to see what Wolf can do with his first season. If he blossoms, there is no need for them to be interested. If he is simply a satisfactory goalie, then maybe they are. They currently have the cap room, which is probably why Parsons said that.

I wish when guys just looked at payrolls and rosters and made up rumours, they were up front about it.

We had troy brouwer, james neal, and Dennis Wideman, yet people want to hate Butler the most?

The guy sucked but hate seems strong.

I hated the other three i mentioned way more

When I think of Butler I think of Bouwmeester, then I get mad at Brent Sutter who criminally misused him.
