#1 - I don't want to pay him the reported 8+M he's asking for
#2 - With any retention he's the most coveted asset right now in terms of top 4 potential. His value will never be higher.
Have you heard whether or not Conroy would entertain offers on Andersson? A lot of what's out there makes it sound like they're not interested in making the kind of move until the offseason... I agree, Andersson for 2 playoff runs makes him more valuable now than at any other time

I don't think it's tricky at all. If you can't get what you paid for, you keep him. Trading him sends a horrible message to the rest of your team and yoru fans that you don't think you have a shot at the Cup.

I think just about any team making a run this year could fit him in and would want him. If he somehow doesn't fit in your top 4 he'd instantly become the best bottom pairing defenseman in the league.

I was told that Florida, Dallas, Colorado and Edmonton have inquired most recently.

I was told that Conroy does not want another Markstrom situation 2.0 so he's keeping things way more quiet out in the media by saying nobody is available.
Everyone is available for the right price, they simply were not getting valuable offers on Andersson early on.

As I said a few pages back, I think that Wolf and Parekh are truly the only real untouchables at this point, though I'd add both Zary, Coronato and the new acquisitions in Frost and Farabee as guys they plan to build around as well.

Has this ever happened when a team traded for pending UFA of this magnitude and couldn’t sign him so they traded him?

I like the balls Carolina shows but this one seemed a bit dumb from the get go.

We trade Andersson at the deadline I feel no poster on this board has the right to question Conroy’s vision ever again.

This is why I want to trade Anderson now. I’m scared if it goes to summer that conroy will slide him a contract at 8x8 and Anderson will sign it.

I agree maximizing the Andersson asset makes a ton of sense the Flames should be open to trading him at 50% retained but they should only do so if their price is met and it should be very high. This team has battled and if they win tonight they will be in a playoff spot at the deadline which is remarkable when considering where most of us thought they were in October. I understand the notion of letting this team see if they can get in the playoffs and getting some playoff experience for the young guys.

As much as I hate the thought of it, an unprotected 1st from Oilers in 26 or 27 could be the most valuable return possible. And maybe Ras can sabotage any Cup efforts from within then go get his payday on the open market.

Something tells me Andersson's hate for Edmonton would put them on his no waive list.

I don't want Andersson on the Oilers. I'd rather sign him 8x13 than that.

Dallas is looking for RHD and there ain none cheaper than Andersson at 50 percent retained, but that cost has to come at a price.

Makes no sense. McDavid is probably staying there so no idea why their pick in 26 or 27 will have the value that you are insinuating

Do we know what the offers are?

Or, do we know what Conroy would entertain? In the past he has set his price and stuck to it. I don’t think it should be any big secret.

Make it easy for Anderson. Just send him down the hall and be done with it.

Teams that have good assets and could use a top 4 RHD at the TDL/draft day:

Carolina —> Burns replacement down the line

Dallas —> Solidify the top 4, also helps with Heiskanen out

Washington —> Carlson isn’t getting younger, Andersson plays middle pairing until Carlson regresses more. Buddies with Mangiapane

Toronto —> Treliving would likely offer 2 1sts and a top prospect if we retained 50% for 1.25 seasons + 2 playoff runs. If Chicago can get a 1st and a highly touted goalie for 2.5m retention S. Jones, then I would think Andersson could fetch something rather high too.

NJD —> Hamilton is out, do they give up on Necas, are they still gonna pony up with Hughes out? Is our relationship with Fitz tarnished? Don’t like this option but you can’t say no if Mercer++ is involved.

Winnipeg —> Would be a good option with Morrissey. Could be a Pionk replacement as I think Pionk is gonna test UFA waters.

Buffalo —> maybe more of a draft day deal, Byram would be who I think the flames should target based on his age. 1 for 1 swap. Lock him up for 8 years.

Just some off the top of my head.

Not necessarily. If you can get something which works better longer term, that might be a better overall position than keeping him for one run, and losing him for nothing.

Trading Andersson may put a nail in our playoff chances....yet I'll still understand if they do it.
