No, I really wasn't.
I merely mentioned what I saw as pretty obvious. I didnt suggest incorporating anything, only what it appears the computer does.

Yeah I would have to agree. the funny thing about the 'computer" aspect of the BCS is that it was implemented to try and take bias away from voters, but in its own way it has its own bias simply because a computer cant watch games, only results. Then there is the whole issue of who programs a computer...humans do. Its really kind of a conundrum of the whole process, and one i dont see an answer too as things are currently structured.

Ohio States president chimes in with his thoughts about the current system....in short it works fine as long as its not a small school playing for the NC.
Quote:
"Well, I don't know enough about the Xs and Os of college football," said Gee, formerly the president at West Virginia, Colorado, Brown and Vanderbilt universities. "I do know, having been both a Southeastern Conference president and a Big Ten president, that it's like murderer's row every week for these schools. We do not play the Little Sisters of the Poor. We play very fine schools on any given day.
|
Dunno about anyone else, but looking at their OOC schedule the last 3 years, I think I may have a problem with those thoughst of his.
Marshall, Ohio, Miami, Eastern Michigan...this year.
Navy, USC, Toledo, New Mexico State last year.
Youngstown State, Ohio, USC, Troy the year vefore.
Quite the "guantlet" for sure. No "little sisters of the poor" at all in that mess.
I get he doesnt want a PO system or smaller schools anywhere near a title game, thats his perogative, but to use the excuse he did is pure buffoonery.

You may have noticed that he's talking about conference play there, but either way OSU's schedules are waaaaaaaay more intense than anything BSU and TCU play. They play one, maybe two, out of conference games that are challenging and then cruise through an absolutely pathetic regular season.
Are you seriously arguing that any of these schedules are that much better (I'll just list non-conference as you did):
TCU:
Oregon State, Tennessee Tech, Baylor, SMU
Virginia, Texas State, Clemson, SMU
New Mexico, Stephen F. Austin, Stanford, SMU
BSU:
Virginia Tech, Wyoming, Oregon State, Toledo
Oregon, Miami (OH), Bowling Green, UC Davis
Idaho State, Bowling Green, Oregon, Southern Miss
BSU this year and TCU last year feature 2 decent matchups, otherwise it's the same cupcake level of schedule. Add in the fact that the conference schedules aren't even remotely comparable and I'd say the Gee's point about the schedules these teams face is pretty bang on. I can't say I agree with his whole 'I like that it's a mystery' rationale though, that's a bit hard to get behind.

Uhh...no Why do yu insist on trying to put words in my mouth all the time?
I am saying that his claim of the Big 10 being a "gauntlet" is BS, as his claim is that dont play weak schools. I thought I made that perfectly clear.
I said NOTHING about anyone elses schedules, but way to go to all that work to agrue something that wasnt said.
If you want me to concede that the Big 10 is tougher than Boise or TCU's conference, consider that done, though recently it hasnt been as tough as it could be. Thats a different debate though.
I know why he is saying what he is saying, he is protecting OSU and the money they can make, thats his job, but his reasoning is purely comical.

Dude, the whole interview and Gee's comments are about Boise and TCU's schedules and how weak they are relative to the rest of the top teams. If you want to trot out OSU's schedule it's only fair to compare it to those that are relevant to the conversation. Maybe you should actually read and process the article next time, nobody put words in your mouth, you just apparently failed to grasp the context of the statements you were commenting on.

WTF are you talking about??/
HE, Mr Gee, was the one who brought up their schedule, not me. I merely disagreed with his conclusion of it.
You have a reading comprehension problem...a bad one.
And your telling me to "read and process" and am unable to "grasp" what is said?
Wow.

The only thing that needs to be said about the Ohio St-Boise St debate:
Strength of Schedules
Ohio State - 59th
Boise State - 68th
And after this weekend where Boise plays the clearly superior team in Nevada (as opposed to Michigan) that tiny gap shrinks 5-8 spots I'd say. A real murderer's row :-/.

Clearly Superior? How do you figure? I am not saying they aren't better, but Michigan lost to ranked teams. Nevada lost to Hawaii.

So Michigan is better because they've been over-matched by every good team they've faced? Basically you're saying Michigan is better simply because they play in the Big 10.
The computers rank Nevada as the 19th team in the country. Only the Saragin rankings are released to the public, so it's the only one we can use to rate Michigan the same way. The Saragin rankings have them at 41st and Nevada at 24th.
Michigan may have faced the harder schedule, but that doesn't make them a better team.

And the schools in question respond. Hmm, sounds familiar.
Boise State president Bob Kustra
Quote:
“He claims that in the SEC, Big Ten and Big 12 it’s murderer’s row every week and there’s absolutely little substance to that claim. … The BCS has finally found someone to stand up and defend the indefensible and Gordon Gee proved it — he not just proved that it’s indefensible but he did so with facts that are simply wrong. … Everyone in intercollegiate football knows that athletic directors of those large power conferences are scheduling more and more teams who are I-AA, who are teams at the weaker end of the non-AQ conferences, and for Gee to stand up and talk about murderer’s row every week is just the height of folly. It’s ridiculous. I think he’s going to set off a firestorm he probably has no interest in creating. To say that he overstated his case is an understatement.”
|
Quote:
TCU athletic director Chris Del Conte said this on ESPN Radio: "When a president of a major institution is taking shots at us, I know we've arrived... I thank him very much."

What debate?
This isnt about whether BSU or TCU or anyone else is worthy of the title game. This is about a completely false statement by the President of Ohio State University concerning his schools schedule, no more and no less.
On the debate you are talking about though...Personally I love it...we have a system that has been defended up and down backwards and forwards by those in the major conferences and BCS backers as being more than fair.
Now that it appears that there is a very good chance of seeing one of those schools getting in by earning it under that very system, now its not fair for the big conference schools. Its complete chaos for them. That is the best thing IMO that could happen as it will probably spawn talk of reform of some kind...which has to happen sooner or later.

Did I say Michigan is better? Read my post. I said Nevada might be better, but it's impossible to tell how Nevada would do against Michigan's schedule or against Michigan. That's why I questioned your statement of "clearly superior".

The leaders of the Big East should go public and champion the difficulty of the schedules that their schools have to face enroute to the BCS spot....

Yeah, the Big East champ is going to get rolled in the Fiesta Bowl. I think any of the four teams that still have a shot at winning the big 12 (OU, OSU, MU, NU) would kill Pitt.

The Iron Bowl is on right now. Tide up 7-0 early in the first on a Mark Ingram touchdown.
This is all I have left for this season, don't take this from me!
