“Player 1” is clearly an non-redeemable piece of ####. I hope whoever he is that he’s ####ting his pants over this and hasn’t had a good night sleep since the story first broke.
Also the teams know who the 5 players are, yeah they’ll use the excuse that they are waiting for the investigations to play out but it’s the same bs as the Aldrich stuff. Just turning a blind eye and letting this continue.

I think most people have a guess on who player #1 basis how things have played out and reading between the lines. The other players I have a guess but I'm thinking some guys with NHL contracts will be done at the end of this.

Teams are in tricky spots as they can't just suspend a player. The PA would be all over them.
If Player 1 is who everyone thinks it is, his team simply had the option to not sign him to a new contract. Which is what they've done. If he had an active contract I suspect he would still be playing.

I’d rather a team draw the ire of the NHLPA and have a grievance filed against them than knowingly playing rapists.

Do you think the difference with Ian Cole is that he was already named?

But who knows if the cost of those spots went way down.

"Knowingly"? The 5 players have not been officially identified, nor have the charges, if any, been identified.
I get that this is a sore spot with everyone, but this is one case where the process needs to be played out. Investigations have been presumably completed. I think it's fair to let those investigations play out, then we can (presumably) lay condemnation at those responsible.

Maybe. Also, the PA wasn’t happy about what happened with Cole. It’s not like they didn’t fight that one too.

Curious who you think the rumored/guess 5 players are? I'm not fully up to date with this case yet.

Without naming names, I think a lot of people are basing this on the strength of denials issued.
You have players who weren't in the city at the time
You have players who didn't attend the event
You have players who say they weren't in the place where the alleged crimes took place
And then you have players who are more broadly saying that didn't do anything wrong and are cooperating.
The statements are gathered here:

The one everyone thinks they know is a guy who didn’t get a contract offer from a team and it seemed a bit suspicious given the timing. A Canadian team out east.
I’m not sure if the other 5 are known, but people have made guesses based on the statements the players released.

Based on the link that Jiri provided. Three players haven't issued a statement and two players have only said they cooperated and/or will cooperate with the investigation. All the rest said some form of no wrong doing. Even at that you still can't pick out the five players who could be facing charges because someone could think that they didn't do anything wrong.
So any names bandied about are most likely just guesses.

Sorry I haven't been through this thread that much. Wasn't Drake Batherson one of the primary suspects? Atleast that's what I've heard from online/reddit. If we're not supposed to discuss players, let me know and I can remove this post.

I think the speculation was Alex Formenton, that's why he was never signed to a new contract by the Sens and still remains a free agent despite 18 goals last season.

Yes, knowingly. They know who they are even if the "public" doesn't, don't be obtuse.
It's the same thing with Aldrich, they knew of the allegations, and didn't do anything. Unless the argument is that they should have kept on Aldrich because he wasn't convicted of a crime. It's the same #### different day.
Any team of the 5 players who told them to stay at home until the investigation was complete would have had my outmost respect. Even if it ultimately failed and the NHL/NHLPA forced them back on the team, but to sit around with their thumbs up their ass for months letting rapists play, why is this acceptable?

If everyone in the NHL knows who the players are, the public would soon know as well.
Don’t for a second believe this has become the largest guarded secret ever.
The one player who everyone thinks is part of the group has been sitting at home. I’d say that was well known. The rest? I don’t know.

Yeah, Formenton for sure. He would've had a contract, as he's a good player- there's no other reason why he wasn't signed or traded, not sure why everyone is afraid to say his name.
Let's just pray Dube had nothing to do with this.
