When did the Calgary Herald become such a rag? I got into it a bit with some people today about an article claiming that the EMS system was vastly improved under the UCP, and when I went to check their source at the Herald it was the flimsiest piece of writing I've ever seen.
How many people are going to be duped into voting UCP because the Herald has no editor?

These polls are disheartening. Really starting to seem like it will be a UCP runaway victory. This province has to be the most embarrassing in the country in terms of politics. There was a real opportunity to boot this mess of a government and demand better from what we witnessed these last 4 years. Instead we will likely reward them with another term. Absolutely pathetic. One can only hope these polls are not accurate.

I even think there is a non-zero chance if the NDP win, Danielle smith could start making those claims.
I'd love to be wrong, but I really have zero faith in the UCP or their candidates right now.

I have no idea how they do things in the US, but here you have scrutineers that will literally stand there from the party and watch the count. It's pretty hard to see how this could allow for obvious tampering or things like that. For any ballot that is questionable or spoiled, they show the scrutineers and everyone has a chance to contest whether it's actually spoiled or they "meant to make a mark" and were seemingly unable. When I was a scrutineer, those instances were extremely few and far between, and nothing I saw was remotely close to questionable. They were very obviously intentionally spoiled ballots.
So...who knows. Could they make these claims? I guess they can claim anything. But the ballots are there for everyone to see, and any legitimate campaign is going to have scrutineers in place.

The mistake is assuming that:
1) The candidates/parties/groups who make these claims actually believe what they're saying (they don't).
2) The rubes who believe these claims are thinking rationally (they aren't).
People who think the World Economic Forum is going to lock them into a concentration camp aren't swayed by evidence or logical arguments. If their side wins, it was fair; if they lose, it was rigged. It's as simple as that.

A few years ago Post-Media bought Sun Media and then merged the newsrooms of the Calgary Herald and Calgary Sun in a cost-cutting move. The Herald was formerly a somewhat respectable newspaper while the Sun has always been tabloid trash. Now the Herald is merely The Sun in broadsheet format. In fact, the Post-Media overseers appointed the editor of the Sun to manage both papers.

Edit: huge lols at anyone who complains about the "liberal media" when literally every major newspaper in the country other than the Toronto Star is owned by conservatives and has a very right-wing editorial board.

Imagine being locked inside a concentration camp owned by the WEF, everything is only 15 minutes away, and drag queens are reading books.
If you vote for the Nutley/Singh/Trudeau alliance, this is the way.

Man... even the sky in Calgary doesn't want to be seen in blue. It's like a giant NDP campaign poster up there.

Yeah, I always got a kick out of seeing Artur walking around with his hands behind his back like he was handcuffed when he wasn't. Such eye-rollingly bad theatrics, and their rubes eat it up.

If the UCP wins, I could see them performing even worse than they are now, as Smith thinks she'll has a mandate from all Albertans for her psychopathic behaviour, and the UCP will fall in line because... UCP. Once that point hits and TBA further enacts its extreme right-wing christo-fascist/redneck policies, moderate conservatives may actually start drawing line and taking a stand. It's gonna get bad. And people like Yoho will cheer it all on, while feeble followers like him get duped (by design) in the process .

It is seriously a concern for me.
I've never not wanted to live in Alberta, but if Smith wins and follows through....

I've noticed when it comes to a lot of Smith's more out-there policies that she used in the leadership campaign she doesn't say they aren't going to follow through with them, she just says they aren't campaigning on them. So I completely expect her to go all in if she wins.

I"m going back to Hong Kong this July to renew my HK citizenship this year. I guess it's always good to have a back up. Living in Red China might be better than living in Blue Wild Batshyt Rose Country.

Typical modus operandi for any government is to do all the dirty work in the first year or two so it will be normalized/forgotten by the next election. Or in the case of the UCP, so the leader can be replaced by someone with ‘clean hands’ before the next election.
If the UCP win, prepare for a shipstorm of crazy to hit the province.
