If they give me a modern version of that I’d be happy.
It’s going to require a lot of changes though. The sooner Tre gets started the better.

I've watched all games with Sutter and although "boring" is subjective, I would say I'm one of those "people" that say his teams are boring. I agree with the aggressive puck pursuit and character but that's where it ends for me. Sutter teams gets tons of shots which in my opinion are perimeter shots that bring down the shooting percentage. He likes to be fast and simple which takes away from the creativity. This is why a Sutter style coach has a shorter shelf life and players eventually wear down to his coaching. If you look historically his teams have never been high scoring teams.
Personally I like fire wagon hockey, high scoring games, so to make a statement that we don't watch any, that is far from the truth.

No, no they have not. You can't say Gaudreau is not elite because he does not make linemates better (which I think is bunk because he made Sean Monahan imo) yet not say the same about Eichel who has made exactly who look good?

Monahan scored 22 goals as an 18 year old without Gaudreau.....so no.

Oh, well that totally proves it then. How did Sam Bennett look as a rookie?

Pretty damn good.
Amazing that exposure to the Flames organization developed Monahan into a bad 200 foot player and Bennett into a bottom line forward.
...almost as if the Flames, an organization that has 4 playoff round victories since 1989, is doing some things wrong...

Better than he ever did after...whats that to do with anything?
Monahan didnt need Gaudreau to be an impact player from day 1.
Thats is just fact.

This morning Boomer and the crew, including Versteeg, laying out the plethora of reasons it makes absolute sense to trade Giordano - not only from the Flames perspective, but from Gio’s perspective.
They say the only reason it shouldn’t happen is if Gio outright says he doesn’t want to chase a cup.
...the Flames should really get this work done, and yes they should retained 50% on Gio to get it done.

If that is the case (and I understand we will never know) - then there is a big reason for why the Flames haven't been very successful during Giordano's tenure as captain.
1 goal in 23 playoff games (that 1 goal came in his first stint with the Flames in 2007) and 7 points.. Giordano is a major reason for why the Flames have sucked in the playoffs.

I also found it really interesting, and depressing at the same time, when the conversation led them to the juncture of "moving core pieces" yet at the same time, noting that Sutter was brought here to win now.
There is no way I believe the flames are better next season or even the year after, if they move Gaudreau, Monahan, Giordano. My belief is that though there may be salary coming back in any such deals, the core value would be in futures, as such, the top line C/LW and top D man slots on the roster, would be degraded.
What a predicament the franchise is in....

Sutter’s a pretty smart hockey guy. I imagine he knew there was potentially a big problem in the roster build/skill set/locker room.
I wonder if Sutter is onboard with a rebuild, and that he’s okay with being the man overseeing coaching duties through it and beyond.
It’s not like Sutter is ancient, he could very well coach another decade - another 3 year extension doesn’t seem crazy to me. The man wants to win a Stanley Cup here. It’s a big personal goal going on what he said at the press conference.

If Sutter was willing to go through a rebuild, he would have signed a 5/6/7 year deal.
He came here to win in the next 2 years. Rightly, wrongly or otherwise.
You can rationalize it all you like, but there is no rebuild coming at this time. If there was, not only would Sutter have signed a longer deal, BT would have been removed as well.
DS is here with the understanding of who the GM was and likely is going forward.
He is 62 years old and already was retired. He did not need the Flames...the Flames needed him. He was paid a buttload of money and given assurances...that much we can reasonably infer.
You think rebuilding was part of what he signed on for? The man has missed the playoffs 3 times in his entire coaching career and you think he would agree to come into a situation that saw him miss at least 3 consecutive years after blowing up the club?
Yeah....no.

People calling for a tankbuild are definitely going to be frustrated over the next couple of years.
While I think it is probable that with some major personnel changes, regular schedule, full training camp, and bounce backs from guys like Tkachuk and Markstrom the Flames would find themselves in the thick of the playoff mix next year. I don’t see this team being more than a bubble squad that is going to chase the 2-1, 3-2 game. Basically the 10-12 Flames with a younger core

Yeah, you can never discount the stupidity of this organization, that's for sure.
If you think Darryl signed up/Brad brought him in expecting to drive this team's season into the dirt...things don't go accordingly to plan.
It's like when Jay Feaster got here and "loaded up!" to get this team back into the playoffs. I suppose stupid gonna stupid.
Perhaps our only hope is winning the lottery and then trading said pick to Buffalo in a deal for Eichel, but I'm sure this team will play better hockey down the stretch and take them out of the high % positions anyways.
Ah, sweet sweet futility.

But not for his lack of will. I tend to agree with Bingo that Giordano's playoff struggles are most likely because he is always playing in high-gear all the time, so when other elite players find another one in April, he cannot keep up.
