They still aren't paying for the wall lol. American consumers can enjoy nice spikes in their produce prices. Americans are paying for it, but let's see how his cultists defend it.

American scientists worried about climate change and skeptical of President Donald Trump are planning a protest march in Washington, D.C.
March organizers, on the event's website, said it serves as "a starting point to take a stand for science in politics." Organizers launched a Facebook page on Tuesday that's already compiled 123,000 likes while its Twitter account amassed more than 150,000 followers.

from 2007 to 2015 the doomsday clock went from 7 minutes to midnight to 3 minutes to midnight.
So a .30 second tick down is nothing compared to the last 8 years, and somewhat expected. While Trump obviously has a trump effect on it, there are a lot of other things contributing to it. Nationalism is rising in Europe, the combined environmental records of the big producers, And the butting of heads between the US and Russia, which ironically means that if Trump and Putin get on the same page and cool off the tension that the dooms day clock will possibly be reset higher then it was in 2015.

Publishing names of people who are in the country illegally and have committed crimes is not really new, as I'm certain you can find criminals names published or released elsewhere too. This just "institutionalizes" the legwork to gather up those names and cross-check immigration/citizenship databases.
|
As pointed out the order does not distinguish between illegal immigrants and legal immigrants. I know when pointed out to Trump he'll simply blow it off as of course I only mean illegals but to his hardcore followers that isn't what it is going to mean.
Quote:
(1) Is it a crime to ask someone if they are a citizen of the USA?
|
No. But it also isn't a crime to refuse to show your ID. So now what do you do if the person actually wasn't committing a crime? In order to "force" you to show your ID they have to articulate a documented suspicion or have probable cause.
So now if you want it to be that you HAVE to present papers or proof of citizenship then you have to change the law to reflect that. And that's a law that you will have trouble passing because let me tell you as much Redneck Joe may not like them immigrants and people with brown skin he sure as heck isn't going to put up with being told he has to show his ID anytime law enforcement asks him for it.
And if you say "well they'd never ask Redneck Joe for such a thing" you just crossed into racial profiling.....
So what you have is the ability to deport illegal immigrants that commit crimes. That already exists and they do that.
In the end the only real way to deal with illegal immigrants without breaking laws and getting into a moral quagmire is to make them legal. Which is an amnesty plan. Hence the DREAM Act in 2001.
And build a wall. Deport illegals. Do whatever you like under the guise of reducing drugs and crime. It won't actually achieve those things. Drugs will come into the country because the demand is there. Crime will still be committed...deporting groups of people that are actually LESS likely to commit crimes isn't going to do anything.

(2) What civil right and liberties are being destroyed by this list?
|
Did I specifically say this one does? But it will happen if they are allowed to do things unchecked. They will desperately want to take away women's rights. LGBT rights etc. They will try. They campaigned on it. They are going to try to install a person on the Supreme court who believes in those things. The whole stalling on Obama's pick had nothing to do with a pending election or other nonsense. It had to do with their regressive social agenda.
They've already done a great job of taking away voting rights.

It went from 5 to 3 minutes in that time...in 2002 it was at 7 minutes. In 2007 it went to 5.

Interesting the site I was looking at had 7, clearly that site was wrong, my bad. However in 2007 in was at 5 in 2010 it was at 6 and then it went to 3.
I do think its a bit funny that they're doing the adjustment in what is a week into the Trump presidency.

I personally would love a list of crimes committed by supposed "law-abiding gun owners," though I'd imagine that list would be far longer.
Really, a record of crimes committed with legally owned weapons would be fascinating.

This is going to sound callous, but if we can keep all hell from breaking loose, eventually Trump and the GOP will lose their stranglehold because their voters are dying off the fastest. Younger generations are more diverse and more liberal, and eventually the old people propping up the GOP will be gone.
If we survive that long.

The number is very easy to swing the other way.
|
I've been pushing this for a while now. Trump lost the popular vote by a large margin, and in the swing states he won, his margin of victory was around or below a percentage point. The GOP has things gerrymandered to make themselves look like big winners, when its mostly all about the right votes in the right places.

The Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists updates the clock every January. This was just a funny/disturbing coincidence.

“The media should be embarrassed and humiliated and keep its mouth shut and just listen for awhile,” Mr. Bannon said during a telephone call.
“I want you to quote this,” Mr. Bannon added. “The media here is the opposition party. They don’t understand this country. They still do not understand why Donald Trump is the president of the United States.”
The scathing assessment — delivered by one of Mr. Trump’s most trusted and influential advisers, in the first days of his presidency — comes at a moment of high tension between the news media and the administration, with skirmishes over the size of Mr. Trump’s inaugural crowd and the president’s false claims that millions of illegal votes by undocumented immigrants swayed the popular vote against him.

So, apparently the Nazi who got punched in the mouth at the Trump inauguration got punched in the mouth again?
Seriously, there's no defending these actions - you can't tell me that neither of these guys owned a crowbar or a bat or something.

I'm not certain that this individual is actually cognizant of what the 'media' is.
If they 'keep their mouth shut' literally or figuratively, then they're not really the media then are they?
Not to mention, Trump worked the media like low-rent hookers during his campaign, it seems somewhat hypocritical and disingenuous to turn on them now.

A crowbar or bat would put him in the hospital. Much better to use your fists so he only receives minor medical care and can be back on the streets again in a couple hours ready to be punched again.
