Their president, Sauli Niinistö, also seems like a really cool guy.
Has Putin commented on Finland's approval yet? It is hilarious that he was so uptight about NATO expansion, and then his actions directly led to NATO's land border with Russia doubling in size a little more than a year later. He also came out yesterday and basically told the Russian people to brace for economic hardship. Despite all the duct tape measures to keep their economy going, I think he is finally realizing that it won't hold forever.

While I don't disagree that it feels absurd, it's worth remembering that from a certain angle, this is how it's supposed to work.
The whole point of the security council was to bring superpowers, presumed to kind of always be each other's enemies, to the same table as equals. Equals means that they take turns in being the leader.
One of the main goals of the security council was and is to prevent World War 3, a goal which is more relevant now than it has been decades, and talking to Russia and trying to find if there's anything you can agree on is important right now for that purpose.
Diplomacy quite often means talking to the worst possible people and finding the least awful things you can agree on.

I don't think his assassination in particular makes a big difference, but he was well known. It could spark more resistance activity because of the attention it gets.
I'd be interested to see if any videos of this come out. There must have been people recording him at the time.
