^ Definitely wanted to punch the Judge in the face multiple times.
What was that line?
"I want an expert in geriatric psychiatry sitting in the gallery for a few days for a mental check."
That was brilliant.
Its nice to get a really good Court-room Drama from time to time. That was a really good one and everyone was excellent in it, I singled out Sacha Baron Cohen but Joseph Gordon-Levitt....He cannot be dismissed!
There were a few who stood above others, but everyone was good. I cant think of a single performance that I'd point to and say "You let the production down!"

The Beekeeper: This John Wick ripoff with Jason Statham is much better than it deserves to be. The story is silly with a lot of cheesy dialog but the action is enjoyable and it has surprisingly interesting characters and world building. Stupid fun. 7/10
The Fall Guy: An enjoyable engaging movie with some fun action and comedy but it suffers from trying to do too much with a story that is all over the place. It's an action mystery romcom with a redemption arc that pokes fun at Hollywood and provides a tribute to stunt workers. I liked this a lot but it could have been great with a trimmed down narrative. 8/10
The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes: One of the better franchise prequels, if that means anything, exploring President Snow as a teenager. Provides more background on the dystopia, adds a twist to the expected hunger games action, and has a tense final act. Does suffer from being part of a bigger franchise with constant references to the original films and needing to set up another prequel trilogy. Tough to rank as a stand alone film but worth watching if you are into the franchise. 7/10
Longlegs: Have been trying to watch more horror lately and enjoyed a lot about this crime thriller with a supernatural twist. The cinematography was excellent and gives you an intense feeling of dread. Was invested in the mystery throughout but felt let down by an ending that was devoid of creativity and just smashed a bunch of horror tropes together. Worth watching but can't take the story too seriously. 7/10
Meg 2: The Trench: More stupid fun with Jason Statham but the emphasis is on stupid this time. Just bored me from the start with too many underwater scenes with CGI and a silly corporate espionage story driving the plot. Did eventually get to the good stuff with the giant shark and friends attacking an ocean side resort but it wasn't enough to redeem this mess. 4/10
Red One: Who was this even made for? It's too scary for a kids movie and too sappy for a grown up action flick. Feels like it is trying to appeal to everyone while throwing as much Christmas lore as possible into the story. Is enjoyable at times and there is a backbone of an interesting movie here but overall is an unfocused mess. 5/10
Spellbound: Netflix attempting to made a Disney movie about a young princess going on a musical quest with a talking animal sidekick. Feels mostly uninspired with ordinary animation and music. Does almost redeem itself at the end with a surprising twist and interesting moral but needed more of that creatively elsewhere. 5/10
Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl: Have saved the best for last with this British claymation about an inventor and his dog taking on an evil penguin. It's silly, funny, and thrilling while also providing a social commentary on technology. Just had an enjoyable time watching with the family. Made me want to put on Chicken Run after and I need to explore the older Wallace & Gromit media. 9/10

The Order is very damn good and absolutely worth a watch, not just for the Alberta shots but Nicholas Hoult and Jude Law are incredible. Tye Sheridan also, he's always been good.
Reading about the group this was based on is frightening, that part of Idaho has always been full of nutjobs, Ruby Ridge happened just mins away from where these guys organized. Honestly, it was a bit concerning watching with what's happening right now with the orange rapist and Musk. You just know every underground white supremist is frothing at the mouth and loving what they're up to.

Argyle was free on Apple TV and I made the mistake of watching it.
The bigger mistake was not turning it off after 20 min when Bryce Dallas Howard appeared.
I don't understand how she has a career (other than being a nepo baby). Am I taking crazy pills? She's awful in everything I've seen her in since the Village.
And what the hell with Argyle. It has it's roots in the Kingsman franchise, but somehow manages to lose all of that, and put out the worst looking insanely boring "action" film.
What a turd.

Go see The Monkey. Absolutely fantastic movie. Hilarious, grim, with plenty of substance. I wasn't a huge fan of Longlegs, but Oz Perkins blew me away here. I was hooked from the first scene. Very well done, highly recommended viewing.

Fairly disappointing overall as a Scream clone, as nothing felt justified or earned, and the lack of logic throughout took away from the fun of it. 6/10
I highly recommend the 1980s William Friedkin film Cruising staring Al Pacino. In New York a seriel killer is going around killing gay men at underground S&M bars and Pacino is the cop who goes undercover to try find the killer. It's a fantastic police procedural film and Pacino does a fantastic job. Even though it came out in 1980 it still has that 70s grit and grime to it, this film doesn't hold back.

I flipping love Cruising. Pacino's crisis of sexuality. Spending so much time in the leather bars, panicking, and running home to have straight sex. It's so good
I know the Queer community responded negatively, which I get. When that's the only version of queerness in media, it's not great. But 45 years later, though the lens of that not being the only representation of queerness, I'm into it.

If anyone recommends to you that you watch Heretic you should immediately stab them in the neck with a pen, knife, keys, whatever you have on hand. That was possibly the most disappointed I've ever been in a highly recommended film. It's like being stuck in a crappy religion studies 101 class. Tedious and poorly written, if you subject yourself to that crap you'll die two hours earlier that's the only thing to take away from it and the only good thing about the film is that it ends.

didn't enjoy Hugh Grant basically talking about Gnosticism without actually naming it as Gnosticism?

It looks like Outside Providence was added to Prime the other day. Underrated teen comedy/coming of age movie from the late 90s. Alec Baldwin is hilarious as the dad. It was written by the Farrelly brothers. Also Amy Smart is gorgeous.
I was ready to call in The Gorge as a dud until halfway through when the movie actually starts.
It seems very much inspired by the pandemic: Zoom calls which at first were a novel way to connect despite isolation, but soon a tedious ritual to mask our loneliness. And more . . .
