Just think about all the stupidest parts of the US and the money behind them banging on the door to start operating in Canada.
Private healthcare easily dovetails into private prisons.
Thankfully, we'd actually have to separate before we'd see public elections for judges and sheriffs...

Ahh wonderful, what the world needs is a constituency with an economic incentive to increase the prison population.

Step 1 - Convince John Q Public that crime is out of control
Step 2 - Increase Police #s and budgets
Step 3 - Introduce Private Prisons
Step 4 - Incarcerate minority and mentally ill populations en masse
Step 5 - Profit!

Hey, it's how the US works! We shouldn't be surprised if this would be her (crappy) end game.

Sure, why not pay for the ER, too. You know why people go there with non-emergency issues? Because they have no choice, becuase you imbeciles have ####ed it up so badly. But ya, charging people for it will fix everything, you ####ing clown.
This guy is in Lethbridge East, it's listed as an NDP tossup right now on 338. Get in there Lethbridgians(ites?), and kick this potato out of office.

The UCP seems to ignore why people are going to the ER. With proper funding, services, and communication to citizens about how to use the ER correctly and appropriately this would be a different story.
Never trust a conservative to a hold up a big placard for public health guarantees. It's about worth it's weight in the ####ty cardboard it's printed on.

I wonder if we start to see the effects of Smiths latest idiocy in the next round of polls. This, combined with a pullback in ucp polling from a possible arena-deal spike in recent polls might just start to show some NDP momentum. I certainly hope so anyway
I do wish we would see some more regular polling results released, it seems crazy to me that there is still only one poll published in May so far, with not much time left until the election. Do they start coming out more regularly at any point?

Good reason to sell the hospital to a private company, look how bad AHS is doing. Private industry will fix it like they did the labs, so instead of a 12 hour wait it will be 2 months.

Actually retired oral maxillofacial surgeon, could have an MD as well because a significant amount of oral maxillofacial surgery residencies are a combined MD/specialty.
Just a bit of trivia, lol

Underfund health care, hard ball nursing and doctor's unions driving qualified people out of province, blame socialism for system issues, convert to for profit system because ideology.

Looking at last election there was a poll every week or so from dissolution until the debate. After the debate it looks like we had two polls a day every 3 or 4 days. It should pick up in the next week based on last year and 2015 seemed pretty similar.

Danielle Smith, and the United Conservative Party announced the Public Health Guarantee: a commitment to Albertans that the UCP is fully dedicated to Alberta’s publicly-funded health care system.
A UCP government will remain committed to ensuring Albertans have access to world-class health care, where and when they need it, through a publicly funded health care system. Under a re-elected UCP government, no Albertan will ever have to pay for a doctor out of pocket.
“I want to be clear: under the UCP’s Public Health Care Guarantee, we are committing to all Albertans that under no circumstances will any Albertan ever have to pay out-of-pocket to see their family doctor or to get the medical treatment they need,” said UCP Leaders Danielle Smith. “It means that a UCP government, under my leadership, will not de-list any medical services or prescriptions now covered by Alberta Health Insurance. No exceptions.”

This is from UCP's platform; https://www.unitedconservative.ca/ucp-platform-2023/
So, does a voter believe what they say or what they write? All parties can be somewhat inconsistent in this regard. The UCP does appear to be the most inconsistent. The older I get, the more cynical I get towards politics and politicians.

In the short term, I believe them.
The big ####ing caveat however, is I also believe they are going to tank service quality and turnaround so badly that those Of Means will choose Private options instead, while young people, the disabled, the elderly on CPP and low income persons will be turbo####ed.

It's easy enough for them too get around this "promise", too. They can privatize and sell off hospitals while still using tax dollars to pay for services. They give us health spending accounts, so you are not technically paying,(but building a great financial relationship with your doctor in the process). If they want to pretend to have scruples, they may even hold the lien on this for 4 years(highly doubt) before going the rest of the way. But she also clearly says " It means that a UCP government, under my leadership" leaving a pretty big loophole(not that any of this is legally binding, so really who cares).
Just remember, a vote for the UCP is also a vote for TBA, and their vision of Alberta's future, with Smith there or not.
