Watched it over the holidays for the first time in a decade or more and noticed that line as well

Watched "Vox Lux" over the weekend, was curious about the director Brady Corbet while waiting for The Brutalist to be released. A few really difficult and violent scenes even though that is not the core of the story, I kinda liked Jude Law and his accent, usually I'm a Natalie Portman fan but didn't care for her in this. It's fine, a little different but overall I don't think it nailed what it was going for. Strange decision to have Raffey Cassidy play the young lead character and then the lead character's daughter later in the film. Sia wrote a bulk of the songs, that was nice.

That film was a true masterpiece.

I need a new cornetto trilogy.

The first two are certified classics.

Yeah, I felt 'The World's End' was a bit of a let-down but the other two were absolute goddamned classics.

Just complete bangers.

Yeah, World's End was a disappointing end to the trilogy, but that's kind of the status quo....the stupid Ewoks, the 37 different points the last LOTR movie should have ended, Bane, the Delorean in the old west, the list goes on.

Hot Fuzz is something I will always stop and watch, no matter at which point in the movie I find it. It gives SOTD a run for the #1 spot in the cornetto saga.

The Two Andy's still crack me up.

I spent $10 and streamed Elevation. If you liked A Quiet Place, you'll probably dig it, because it's pretty much the same movie. Bulletproof creatures wiped out humanity, but don't go above 8000 feet in elevation.

It's pure escapism for 90 min, but is well acted by Morena Baccarin and Anthony Mackie.

I watched the most recent remake of Nosferatu in theaters and thought it was really good. The vibes were incredible, it's a perfect winter horror film imo. But oddly enough I actually preferred the original silent film.

If you're interested in hearing Robert Egger talk about inspirations for his version check out this video.

Finally saw Gladiator 2, I have to agree with most of the reviews in here.

Entertaining fight scenes and beautiful cinematography, loved seeing all those wide shots of ancient Rome and the rolling hills around it. But I agree that it felt too handcuffed to the original, to the point it almost felt like a massive epilogue of it as someone mentioned here.

The emperors were downright cartoony too, they had no background motivation (like Commodus from the original), it was hard to take them seriously. Especially the crazy little weasel Caracalla. If you know Roman history, that's the polar opposite of what Caracalla looked like; dude would be driving a jacked up black Dodge Ram and referring to himself as an "alpha" if he lived today. Just silly to change him that much.

Overall it was enjoyable enough (and some good history nerd-out parts, like the recreated naval Battle of Salamis in the Flavian Amphitheater), but pretty forgettable. 6/10

Just saw this this afternoon while waiting for service on the truck I and was rather unimpressed with it if we’re being honest. Not nearly vibey enough. This may sound like kind of a weird gripe but… they put zero effort into set design these days . Completely unrelated film, but I remember seeing Till a couple years ago and wondered why some ####hole general store in rural 1950s Mississippi looked like a freshly painted set and the same applies here. A port city in Germany in the 1840s… where’s the dirt? It’s like the constant rats were needed to remind us of where we were. Offputtingly clean brick. The Dracula story is definitely played out but knowing it really did help- the original Nosferatu endures because of its simplicity and its striking, haunting imagery. Eggers has given us a Nosferatu that occasionally borders on incoherence with a too busy mish mash of idiotic dream sequences, characters we dont care about and rather poor special effects (for 2024/5), and of course the aforementioned plasticky set design. Big miss for me.

Finally watched the Substance, based on a lot of folks' reviews here. Interestingly, my wife (not a horror fan at all- more a drama type), wanted to watch it when I mentioned it as she heard about all the messages on beauty in Hollywood the film portrays.
Boy did she regret it.... I think she left me to watch alone about 1 hour in.
Won't spoil anything, other than to say it was hard to watch in places and you felt somewhat icky after. The ending though, good god.... that was absolutely insane. It's not my type of horror movie, but glad I watched it anyway.

I dunno FFS, that’s probably gonna be explained.

Watched Dirty Dancing: which is a fun movie, its really liked it. It's pretty Campy but in a good way. Have to admit the premise made me laugh lots. A good movie to watch with your wife or girlfriend 8/10

I also watched Homme Qui Dort: Again the premise made me laugh a bunch. Impossible not to think of the simpsons making fun of French art cinema. That said, there was a lot to like. The sound design and the 1970s Paris vibes especially. I think it's worth watching in French if your trying to brush up or learn. The whole thing is pretty descriptive. 7.5/10

I watched The Bikeriders, one of my favorite movies I've seen in a long time. Thought it was a throwback to something you would have seen in the 90s. The movie is about a motorcycle club and how it changes throughout the years, and how the founders don't connect anymore.

Lots of great performances and the movie is less interested in the violence and crime aspect and more about the type of people who would join the club in the first place.

Just watched Juror 2.
It was ok; probably give it a 3/5.

I watched the new 4K transfer of Terminator, the movie has never looked better. It's one of my all time favorites and I was worried they would mess up the transfer like they did for T2 but this one looks and sounds fantastic. I really noticed how amazing the score was with this latest watch. Now I have the urge to re-watch the franchise but I'll probably just end up watching the first 3 and ignoring the rest. My main problem with the last 2 entries is how they mess around with John Connors role in saving humanity. That would be like making a Titanic sequel and finding out Kate never really loved Leo.

I started that got about 1/4 way through on a flight and turned it off cuz I was getting sleepy.

I think I will re-start it from the beginning.
