I'm looking forward to that 3H 35M running time of The Brutalist, call me crazy. I was reading there will be a proper 15 min intermission but not sure if that's included in the running time.

Psh someone hasn't watched RRR. Matter of fact thinking about it the list of 3 hour long films that are great is much longer than those that are bad. Odd take
I asked ChatGPT for a list of 100 films with 3hrs or more ordered by RT rating. It only gave me 45, so maybe only 45 are reviewed there. There's probably one's that around 2:45+ that we could basically count. And it seems GPT screwed up the ratings order there near the bottom for some reason, but don't care to fix. I'd say overall it's a pretty high average and there's not really much of a middle ground as it's either amazing or terrible, which makes sense. Sitting through even an OK movie for 3+ hrs makes it tough.
The > 4 hr ones look like mini-series. Strange “The Right Stuff” was listed twice in there.
Yeah also weird I don't see Snyder's Justice League there which was over 4 hours. Not sure how the AI can take over if it can't compile a list of 100 movies.

Was RRR over 3? I thought it was around 3. It was a good time, but the sort that's delightfully over the top where the action scenes are almost gags.
The point is, if you can't edit your story down to 3 hours of movie and get the essentials of what the viewer needs to know then the story is overstuffed for one feature or some moments are more dragged out than they need to be.
Some marathon films are worth seeing through, but if we're intellectually honest about them a few seconds can be trimmed off of a number of scenes and you probably wouldn't lose anything. And it would be a breezier sit-through and even better for it.
Oh I get what you’re saying I'm wondering what examples you’re thinking of because looking at 3+ hour films from the past 30 years or so it's easily argued that by and large they're terrific.

Watched Anora last night. One of the top Drama movies i've seen in a long time. Neon as a studio has been on fire. 4.5/5
It's really good, the end scene is a solid gut punch emotionally.
Have you seen the director's other work?
The Florida Project and Red Rocket were both equally great, and I've heard the same of Tangerine but haven't seen it yet.

Not as good at the aforementioned but I liked Starlet as well, Dree Hemingway (daughter of Mariel Hemingway) was fun to watch even if there were body doubles used. Baker recently stated that his next project will be more of a comedy and not focus on sex workers.

AI probably understands that playing a 2 hour movie at half speed doesn’t count as a new 4 hour movie.

I have seen The Florida Project. Very very good. I will have to check out the rest!

Tangerine is great as well. I haven't seen any of his previous movies but I want to see Take Out. Mikey Madison picked it in the Criterion Closet.

I watched Tony Scott's Revenge, excellent flick. Kevin Costner plays a former Navy officer who goes to vacation in Mexico. He's staying at a friend's house, and the friend happens to be a high up member of the cartel. Costner then ends up falling in love with the guys wife and things escalate from there. I really dig it, one of those great 90s action films.
A deranged Shakespearean actor starts bumping off his critics in Bard-inspired ways. It's classic Vincent Price - campy, funny and a bit gruesome, wrapped up in classic early '70s style. Loads of fun.
