Unless the state intervention is the cause of the problem then it’s a failure of the individual systems.

Now there might be debate between address the symptom and address the cause and the incentives that are created by various interventions but the choice isn’t between the state solving or the individual solving it’s between deciding the status quo is acceptable or state intervention.
Well said. There is a significant amount of overlap between “people who complain about a societal issue” and “people who do nothing to solve societal issue.”

If individuals could solve a lot of these things themselves or create non-government solutions to these things… why aren’t they? Government shouldn’t spend the money to solve homelessness? Ok… who will? Not individualists.

The problem with anti-government individualism is that, by nature, some people are going to act in an individualistic way that you don’t like and there’s nothing you can do to stop them or curb their actions.

We have billionaires that could outright solve significant societal problems on their own and they won’t do it. That’s some kind of power and it’s being used for nothing. So we should suddenly expect that in the absence of a central body keeping these issues in mind and ensuring a concentrated effort goes toward them, individuals are just going to magically figure it out themselves? lol

As Fuzz said, libertarianism is incompatible with society. It’s an adult fantasy. Naive to the extreme. Like people who waste their days imagining what life would be like to win the lottery instead of making their own money. If people want the government to irrelevant… make them irrelevant. It’s apparently that easy.

Danielle Smith can sell off all of our hospitals to her Take Back Alberta friends and her Freedom Fighters who can then decide which services will be provided to Albertans at for profit rates from the incredibly more efficient and less corrupt private sector.

What a future awaits us! What a time to be alive!

The whole ucp more 'boots on the ground' is dumb. Currently the # of police officers per 100k population is at an all time high.

I find the "boots on the ground" amusing, given there is a random single shoe sitting on a planter in her video.

The FuturePast poster is also fitting.

Please stop saying this! As any longtime poster here knows, I don't DM anyone. You DM'd me complaining as I quote "Just kind of tiresome having the same select group of posters have a pout on main every time I give you attention.". How ironic getting a DM from a poster that doesn't like to get attention from posters that he admits to giving attention to. Grow up!

I noticed that the NDP candidate in the area near the university felt the need to let everyone know she's a doctor by putting it on her campaign signs. Cringe move.

Most societal level problems require societal level solutions. Increased taxes, increased oversight, increased services. A libertarian is against all of these, instead saying the individual should only rely on themselves.

So any proposal, plan or attempt to solve societal issues with societal mechanisms would be fought by the libertarian.

His logic seems pretty fine, if you accept the premise of what a modern libertarian's focus and goals are.
No no no no. In MY Libertarian idealogy, we keep all of the great societal solutions that help ME, and scrap EVERYTHING else because it is obviously TOTAL WASTE

You probably won't see signs for the Alberta Party candidate but she always uses the Dr. title as well. The difference being that she only has a doctorate degree and isn't an MD so it is even more cringeworthy. Still will get my vote though.

LOL. where's the line there? "Bizaro86, P.Eng" next election?

It'd be even more hilarious if one of the professions where people have a ton of certifications did it (eg dentists, financial advisors) and had to get bigger signs.

I wonder what % of voters are actually swayed in any way by their local candidate - I bet it's very small, since the most engaged types tend to also have strong opinions.

Pretty sure Raj Sherman is doing the same thing for the UCP, so all parties are guilty of title dropping.

I would definitely like seeing the 'Dr.' designation on someone's political credentials, absolutely. Rare that we get people of that level of education choosing to get involved in politics as is. Right away, it's instant credibility to me, as it's those qualifications that are almost always based in science, data and critical thinking/reasoning.

Since you are close, I nominate you to go and take lots of video. Wear and orange shirt(and if you still have those orange pants...).

Last time: We can't let the NDP in, they are all just a bunch of arts majors and barristas.

This time: I can't believe that the candidate advertised their qualifications!

Hey that's close to me! I'd so go there just to listen to the auditory circus that will take place, but I've already got tickets to the Wranglers game.
