I thought not long ago we "Over-built" our electrical grid and we still are paying for it in our utility bills? Our issues are coming from power generation, especially in the really hot summer days when we can't keep up with the usage.
If we are talking about upgrading the electrical grid even more to accommodate electrical usage beyond what we already upgraded to, that's nuts. Its going to cost an insane amount on our utility bills.
Depending on what kind of capacity upgrade we are talking about, that 87 billion might not be too far off.
Really we need to expand on our electrical generation and energy storage. Anyways that's really a discussion for another thread.

Who, Fuzz?
I know.
Anyway, why don't people come into this thread and discuss things like adults instead of total jerks? It does seem like a huge group is actually incapable of it. Like, legitimately, not capable of doing so.

If that's your take, why are you in here anyways? Seems like this thread isn't your jam then.

YOU are one of the key reasons this thread has ground to a halt for actual reasonable discourse and is now 1/50th of what it used to be for actual good discussion. I don't really have time or care enough to go ####ing research everything to the tits so that I can debate with the army of zealots in here squashing every discussion point with impunity. I posted it for discussion and to see what others thought. "Dill with it".

It took less than a minute to google "Alberta Institute", find the about page and see their bias. I highly doubt you wrote your previous post about it in 3 seconds, and it would have saved you writing it at all.

It's a good point, I have thought about it previously, just stop reading this because it's just an echo chamber now, but I actually like to see what different minded people think and read about it. I am curious why others don't think this way, and I think that the fact others aren't is why political discourse has dissolved into what it is now (online).

Well since you researched and saved me the time, how biased are they?
Are all "libertarian think tanks" not worthy of anything they write?

I think the majority of the cost is to cover new and alternative power generation. Also, with the advent and proliferation of EVs, some grids will certainly need to be strengthened, no?

Libertarianism is fundamentally incompatible with society, so if the proposal is something related to societal level goals, you can expect a libertarian to fight pretty hard against that. This would be like asking why I shouldn't be suspicious of a communist think tank criticizing a capitalist policy. It should be pretty obvious, no?

I just got a typed letter shoved through my door today telling me how I'm personally responsible for the death of Alberta if I vote NDP.
Man, those UCP people calling me a moron really make me think twice about voting UCP.
Interesting that there's 2 reddit threads about it at the same time
https://www.reddit.com/r/alberta/com...today_for_the/
https://www.reddit.com/r/alberta/com...to_the_rescue/
It's similar to those but different. Like I guess the UCP just put out an ad campaign for some "grassroots" support?

I feel now is a good time as any to remind people this story exists:
The Town That Went Feral
When a group of libertarians set about scrapping their local government, chaos descended. And then the bears moved in.

This is one of the most internally illogical statements I think I've ever seen on this forum. Surely you can re-read this and understand why this doesn't follow, right? I mean, even assuming the first premise is correct.

I just saw a poster at my local community association. If anybody wants to see David Parker speaking his drivel, tomorrow night is your lucky chance. 6 pm May 11, Wildwood Community Association. I’ll post a picture a little later

Can you elaborate?
Modern Libertarianism is focused around laissez-faire economics and minimal government intervention. It prioritizes the individual over the group (society). Fundamentally it is incompatible with a society because it ignores the needs of that society to instead focus on the needs of the one.
Most societal level problems require societal level solutions. Increased taxes, increased oversight, increased services. A libertarian is against all of these, instead saying the individual should only rely on themselves.
So any proposal, plan or attempt to solve societal issues with societal mechanisms would be fought by the libertarian.
His logic seems pretty fine, if you accept the premise of what a modern libertarian's focus and goals are.

Danielle Smith might be apologizing for her comments comparing vaccinated Albertans to followers of Nazi Germany, but the Take Back Alberta leadership isn't having any of that.
Here's their Calgary regional captain, Roy Beyer, RTing a long rant justifying the comparison. #ableg
