What's with all the love for Dvorak? I've watched him play and never seen anything special. He's not a great skater, he's not a proven point player, and he doesn't even have a high ceiling. Sure he had a great junior but you can put anyone between Tkachuk and Marner and get a ton of points.
I hope and pray, if we trade Monahan it's not part of a package to get Dvorak. I'd much take a shot at Roslovic, his ceiling is higher, he also has great skating which could be utilised playing in a Sutter system.

If we are trading with the Habs for players rumored to be on the block, it might be better to look at Arturi Lehkonen-he's excellent defensively (I know we don't like plus/minus, but this guy is +1 on a team where almost everyone is deep into the minus), he skates well, and is putting up around 0.5 ppg on a team that struggled with offense, until St. Louis took over. The only downsides are that he plays LW, and he's not very big (5'11).

I think we're going to get Erik Gustafsson as a rental(again). He fits the IKEA narrative, he is a UFA with only an $800k cap hit. He shoots left, and can play both sides. He offers an option for PP2 or even PP1(if he's in the line-up), as well as a decent first pass out of the zone.

Might be something the Flames considers if he clears?
Would be an insurance rental if Valimaki and Mackey aren't ready.

You can't claim a guy and send him to the AHL (without waiving him again).

I think he is saying he clears, gets sent down, and is traded as an AHLer.

I am saying it is an option if he clears waivers the Flames could trade for him.
Then he would be able to be sent to the AHL if the Flames acquire him for the lowered cap hit and called up when the playoffs begin to be the 7th or 8th d-man.

Yeah, he also has some pretty good analytics on a bad/average Chicago team.
Corsi - 55%
Fenwick - 54%
On Ice Goal % - 55.4%
expected Goals % - 52.3%
Chicago's expected Goals % without Gustafsson - 46.7%
Source
I liked him in his last stint here, but thought he was struggling a bit during the playoffs. As a 7th D he just ticks all the boxes in my head. All the boxes except for the acquisition price.

As much as I like Dvorak you can't make that deal if you are BT because you need Monahan's cap hit off the books entirely to sign your other key pending free agents. We can't be bringing Dvorak's cap back.

Here is the thing though. If you are going to pay 2 wingers $10M+ it is really handy to have your top 2 centers signed for 4.85M and 4.45M for the next couple of years.
Lucic and Backlund become 2 contracts that may need to be shuffled out but Dvorak’s cap hit is excellent and I think he is a solid Sutter player.
I don’t think a deal gets done though. I am anticipating a depth blueliner move and that’s it. At this stage I am hoping Monahan regains some confidence so I hope he gets an extended look with Mangiapane and Toffoli

I would love to move Looch and Backlund but don't see it. Maybe if we win the Cup Looch will retire but this organization has a long term love affair with Michael Backlund.

As they should with Backlund.
Backlund has consistently throughout his career been thrown to the wolves in terms of usage and had faired very well. His two way game is very strong and he is a key contributor on the ice and in the room.
Backlund has shown growth and a resiliency throughout his career and has been there for the teams through all of it's ups and downs. Dude should remain a Flame and retire one too
Backs still isn't hurting the team and his we should be looking at cutting others way before considering Backs.

I wonder in the off season the team could trade backlund for a 2nd rounder, then sign Jarnkrok to a cheaper deal to replace him as the 3rd line Centre.

I think Lucic’s contract could be attractive to a few teams this summer. I believe he is owed a $3M bonus around July 1st. After that, he is owed something like $1M in actual cash but still carries his $5.25 cap hit. I’m not certain on the details as these numbers don’t add up but his actual payout after his bonus is close to league min. For a rebuilding team, or Arizona, this could be appealing.
He does have some control over this but I also wonder if there is some understanding between Lucic and the team about his final year, similar to he being left exposed in the expansion draft.
I don’t think it will be impossible to move him.

I forget where I read this, but I heard the Flames might be interested in brining in Noel Acciari from Florida. (Friedman, maybe?)
Not super familiar with the player as I don't watch too many panthers games. RHS C that can play wing. I think he has decent speed too.

He already did the Flames a solid at expansion draft. It's not happening.

That was probably before they acquired Jarnkrok. Acciari would have been the consolation prize if the Jarnkrok deal fell through.
Both would have similar roles with the Flames, but Jarnkrok is the better player in most people's mind.

Lucic has a $3m signing bonus next season, so I'm sure he will stick around for that but his base salary is $1m, so it might be worth it for him to LTIRetire after the season starts. He has played a hard game and I'm sure he is extremely beat up.
If I had to guess, Flames will be on the hook for the signing bonus and then Looch will join the Flames organization in some sort of off-ice capacity
