A little different. Kessel needed the start to keep his streak alive. Gio already made 1000 games - this was just a presentation.

Nah they could have let him play one shift and go. Making him get dressed all up with equipment for a game he didn’t even play a minute would have been a bit awkward and weird in the dressing room.

Might be something the Flames considers if he clears?
Would be an insurance rental if Valimaki and Mackey aren't ready.

So we can win a cup with two players the Oilers are paying for?

Habs/Flames are still talking I'm told. Important talks. After Toffoli, the interest in Chiarot, these two teams continue to talk. Christian Dvorak is a possibility, for sure. We'll see what comes of it, if anything. #GoHabsGo #Flames

Wouldn’t Kulak make more sense? Left shot depth Dman. The Flames should be done at forward I would think. Too many bodies and not enough cap now and into the future for a guy like Dvorak IMO.

We better not hurt the feelings of a guy we are trading so we should let him skate for a shift and then leave so the team plays short handed.
Makes no sense. It was not his 1000th game so why have him skate for a shift then hit the lockers? How is it disrespectful?
Seattle is doing the right thing holding him out and honoring him.

I doubt this has any validity but I saw an article on the hockey writers that said the Flames were still after Dvorak.
Brad said the heavy lifting is done and that would be a big trade so I am not really holding my breath on this one. Habs should be in no rush to make a deal.

Flames have just over 0.5M in cap space. If we assume any player coming in kicks someone like Ritchie off the roster, they can trade for a 1.5M player. If they include Valimaki in the deal, they also get an additional 0.4M from his buried cap penalty.
So any veteran defenseman making 1.9M (or 3.8M at 50% retained) or less available and worth moving Valimaki for?
Outside of a surprising Monahan trade, that's the biggest deal I see the Flames making now at the deadline.

Dvorak for Monahan 1for1, who says no?
Trickier than you think with Monahan declining and Dvorak signed for 2 more years.
I presume Montreal says no and is after more for Dvorak than a bit of a project player on a shorter deal.

Unless Hughes just isn't a fan of the player and is more concerned about the 3 years of term Dvorak has left instead of the 1 year that Monahan has.
I could see something around Dvorak and Monahan...if not now maybe in the offseason. Flames would have to add but maybe its easier than having to get rid of Monahan's full cap.
Flames have seemed to make a point of getting friends of Lindholm...maybe we see the same move here with Tkachuk.

I’d sooner sign Jarnkrok and offload Monahan’s full cap hit vs get the cap hit of Dvorak.

Insider trading:
Giordano is one of Leafs' targets
Ron Francis and Kyle Dubas have a Sault st. Marie connection
Kraken want a 1st round pick for Gio, but Dubas has told teams he won't trade his 1st rounder for a rental
Middleton is another target for the Leafs but they don't like the price on him either
Sens have made another offer to extend Nick Paul
Sens have offered 4 year term but it is not enough for Paul
Paul appears to be headed to UFA and if Sens cannot sign him they very likely will trade him before deadline
Panthers and Avs continue to show interest in Giroux
LeBrun cannot pinpoint if there is a 3rd team with interest
Panthers are all in on Giroux, Tippett could be part of the offer.
Avs are going to put their best foot forward
Going to come down to what Giroux wants
Not clear if Arizona feels this is the best time to trade Chychrun
Could feel they might get something better in the summer or are just trying to get the Bruins and Kings to up their offers
Ducks have made no progress on Hampus Lindholm
Could be a fit in Boston or St. Louis
Will be a high price
Vegas is denying that Lehner will be out long term
Arizona, Buffalo, SJ, Seattle are willing to be third party brokers for salary retention to make cap hits fit for assets

If I am Calgary I am all over Dvorak for Monahan, cant see it being right now move but you never know. He is a guy that is solid defensively, fits into a middle 9 role, likely never be a 20 goal scorer but I am not to sure Monahan will ever be again either.
