Thomas and Kyrou both have NTCs that kick in July 1 and possible they try to move both of them before then.
It's unlikely for sure which is why I left him off my list initially but if you're going full rebuild then you'd probably move him and he'd be your most valuable asset.

Highly doubt Armstrong trades ALL those guys....probably 1 of them, maybe 2.
He isnt going down the rebuild road IMO.

Man that would be a get.
I don’t know what pieces the flames would have to give up to get BOTH of those guys, but I assume it would be a lot.
Coronato
Zary
Jersey 1st
Florida 1st
Vegas 1st
Mews
Stormgren
Battaglia
Bru
What would you be willing to give for those guys? Assume it would be probably all 3 firsts I listed, one of Zary/Coronato and 2 of the other 3 I listed. Ouch.

Probably gives you a good idea how hard it is to get players in that 18-23 age range that can make an impact unless you are drafting them.
|
I’m not sure I remember it changing. I just think teams will only trade players in that younger range unless it’s an absolute overpay. The Flames are trying to find buried players while drafting well. Seems like a good strategy.

Kyrou has the pure skill to be a top 5 offensive player in the league, problem is consistent effort.
If ever a coach could find a way to convince him to play the right way, the player would be an absolute star.

Is there any actual rumor that we are about to make a trade? Or is this all based off a gif?

It's a week til the deadline so the idea that Conroy is working on something doesn't exactly blow my mind. One could post a gif once a day for the next week and keep everyone frothing at the mouth. It's fun!

From what's been mentioned, something sounded like it was about to go down or was getting close but then got pulled off the table. Royle and Sec insinuating that the deal isn't officially dead just yet, which is why no names or anything additional has been shared.

Last year after the Lindholm trade he played center with Kuzmenko and Huberdeau a lot of the time and he had good results.
And then this year his best production was that little stretch when they moved him to center after Zary was injured but before they acquired Frost. (He had some chemistry with Zary and Pelletier before Zary got hurt too).
The organization doesn't seem to see him long term as a center but it's where he's been most effective offensively.
It's also interesting that last year he was also good on the PK with Coleman, but they haven't really played him much on the PK this year. Which actually makes me wonder if he's playing a bit injured too, because with our poor PK this year there is no reason they shouldn't have least tried it again.
|
My recollection of last year was he scored some goals while on wing. Once he moved to C, he stopped scoring as much as he was focused on the position and trying to play better D (didn't do that too well, IMO) and then started racking up goals the last 3rd of the season when he moved back to wing.

One thing to look at is teams that may go full tank for McKenna like Chicago did for Bedard when they traded Dach and Debrincat
You may be able to get younger players with upside for futures in this scenario

I just hope he can adjust and adopt to the pieces of the roster as it changes over the next couple years.

Sadly for coaches he won't be here when they get to that point.
But hopefully he provides a foundation for the defensemen and for the culture that they can use for years.

It’s fun to speculate but I don’t think we should expect too much. Deals fall apart all the time.

Maybe. Or maybe he will end up being the Flames' version of Jon Cooper? I won't pretend to know how he is personally or how he is or isn't liked/respected in the room, but he seems to have this team playing well without the rumoured Hartley mind-games, the Darryl Sutter pressing of buttons. We have also heard that he has some bite and isn't exactly a player's coach either.
He seems to have the personality to be a long-tenured coach. He seems to have the intelligence too. Hopefully he finds a way to adapt to the improvements of the roster over time. I feel more confident about him being that 'forever' coach since Johnson - which may not be the greatest example since Johnson left (but was such a mistake IMO).
