Would BOS have an appetite for looch to fill out their roster with muscle?
Any whisper or indication since those early season rumors?

I just put BOS because Looch has a 10 team trade list and seeing that BOS is in a place to add a depth piece, bringing back the old boys, and a chance to make a run for the cup, everything just makes sense from both sides. Plus if we max out the salary retention, it doesn't debilitate BOS either. In actual money, it's costing BOS around a million if not less.

If they want Toffoli, a 20-goal man, there better be a first in there.

I don’t think you trade either. I think you ride their mediocrity out, and it will be one of the reasons that you’re generally a bad NHL team. It’s perfect for a rebuild.
If this team wants to win a Stanley Cup in the next 4 seasons (including this one), then yeah…it’s not looking good.
|
If this came to pass, I don’t think anyone could accuse the Flames of intentionally tanking. Big contracts, aggressive trades. That’s good.
But standing pat also gives those players a chance to bounce back.

2025 3rd round pick (DAL)

Toffoli, Tyler
To CGY
2025 4th round pick (BOS)
To BOS
Lucic, Milan ($2,625,000 retained)
To CGY
Quinn, Jack
2023 2nd round pick (VGK)
2024 1st round pick (BUF)
To BUF
Lindholm, Elias
To CGY
Puljujärvi, Jesse
To EDM
2025 3rd round pick (CGY)
Huberdeau - Dube - Pelletier (Is Dube comparable to Bennett? Pelletier speed comparable to Duclair?)
Gurianov - Kadri - Puljujarvi (Gurianov has potential to be Nichushkin? Kadri and Nichushkin were great in Colorado)
Mangiapane - Backlund - Kravtsov (Most guys play well with Backlund)
Coleman - Ruzicka/Lewis - Quinn
So just to recap,
IN: Kravtsov, Gurianov, Quinn, Puljujarvi, 2024 3rd round pick (DAL), 2025 3rd round pick (DAL), 2025 4th round pick (BOS), 2023 2nd round pick (VGK), 2024 1st round pick (BUF)
OUT: Toffoli, Lindholm, Lucic, 2024 3rd round pick (CGY), 2025 3rd round pick (CGY)
We get bigger, faster, younger, and cap compliant for next season with a some picks put back into the cupboard.
How much worse can we be?
|
The Flames should either tank or go for it. These trades just shake things up and make them slightly worse.
If the Flames are tanking, I like that Buffalo trade looks okay. The rest not so much. I guess you take whatever you can get for Lucic and Kravtsov could be a good reclamation project that you could flip for more later?

Lucic does not have a full NMC he has a 10 team trade list.

Rumours are Puljujarvi might be going on waivers to activate Yamamoto…let’s offer them a 3rd pick. Lol

There is probably 31 teams with Lucic on their no want list.
He's literally worthless on a Modin level. I don't think the NHL has a gm as dumb as Jay Feaster to do a deal like that.

I would personally rather take a low risk flier on Puljujarvi than spend big assets on another player. He is big, and fast and in a Sutter system he could thrive if given a defined role. He is still only 24 and could have a Nikushkin type career trajectory?

Seems like teams always value toughness and veteran leadership around this time. His cap hit makes it a tough move. Boston is probably the only team that makes sense and strictly for the nostalgia

Poolparty has been wanting out for years. If they have to put him on waivers I'm sure a 4th might even do it... and we're the rivals!

Boston is a really good team.
Looch shouldn’t even be playing in Calgary’s lineup.

Karlsson would be ruined coming to a team that would expect him to play in his own zone, as crappy as our defensive play has been.

The highest I'd start is a 7th, back and forth negation with probably ends up a 6th.

I’m all for a PoolParty, but I worry that he seems too satisfied with packing it in and going home to play in Finland, where the level of play is much easier. Seems like he’s lost the motivation to play over here.
That said, I would give him a shot. I think Gurianov has shown more to make me believe he can revive his career.

Jonathan Drouin with 3 pts puts himself over 0.5ppg on the season. If he is a buy low option I still think that makes some sense. I am just going to assume he and Huberdeau are close friends as they are similar age, from Quebec and are both repped by Walsh.
Would he cost a 4th rounder and low end prospect if he comes 50% retained?
