A big factor on whether Jagr makes sense for the Flames is where does he fit on the PP. No point on signing him if he doesn't play on the PP. Who does he replace?
PP 1:
Gaudreau - Monahan - Jagr
Brodie - Versteeg
PP 2:
Bennett - Backlund - Tkachuk
Giordano - Hamilton
I love Ferland, but he isn’t exactly a great fit for PP duty.

Yeah, considering I already think he should be swapped out with Bennett on PP1 and just have 3M serve as PP2, it wouldn't be difficult to find a place for the second leading scorer in NHL history.

So you don't have Bennett on either PP?
The 3M is great and all, but Frolik isn't exactly a PP beast.

No point? Jagr is one of the best 5 on 5 scorers in the NHL. If he is willing to suck up limited PP time there is certainly a point from the Flames' perspective. Now if his goal is to pad his career totals that's a different story, but it doesn't jel with why he would want to join a contending team as his best bet to pad his totals would be something like playing with the Sedins in VAN.

No, I have Bennett on PP1 in Ferland's place.
As for Frolik, I know, but I'd rather just keep the line together, considering I'd heavily split the PP time in favour of a loaded-up unit 1 if the options are Frolik or Ferland. If you bring Jagr into the mix, well, that's a baller cat of a different colour.

He's not one of the best 5 on 5 scorers in the NHL anymore, doesn't have the speed any more. Any team signing him would have to give him considerable PP time for a contract to make sense. It was reported that a NHL GM said basically the same thing.
Jaromir Jagr 2016-17 33 5v5 points, good for 113th in the league. Tied with Frolik and 1 point less than Backlund.
Not a top line guy anymore but the Flames don't need him to be one. They just need someone to add some depth scoring because none of the bottom 6 pluggers are going to do so this year.
Would you add another Frolik to this team on a 1 year 3 million dollar contract? I would.

forget his advanced stats, forget that he fills a need, forget his production.
He will sell tickets. I can buy tickets for pretty much any game right now on ticketmaster at face value and in most cases far, far below face value. Flames need a little help and a good story to sell some seats. Put a cat condo in the dressing room and lets do it.

If i made money off those tickets then I would care. Until then we can pass on him. I don't see him having any sort of drive to help a team win a cup.

Jagr doesn't need speed. He has Gretzy-esque innate hockey IQ to go with being massive with great hands. I forget where but I read that he had the lowest dump in rate in the NHL... LAST YEAR. Adding him to a line with Gaudreau or Bennett (or... BOTH!!!!) and you've got all the elements needed for an elite line.

Those numbers seem off. 33 points is correct, but that's tied for 61st to 75th. (or... first liner production) Frolik had 27 (127th) and Backlund had 28 (114th). Perhaps you're including 3v3 scoring as part of ES scoring?

How do you not want this guy on our team after watching that video... its just his goals from last year -- not the 30 + assists that he also put up. My god the man is a beast - love #760 against the Ducks in Anaheim.. we need some of that magic in the pond.
Man, the Flames would recoup his salary in jersey sales alone.
And I bet he'd be able to mentor the young guys on how to get in the right spot, even without raw speed.
For the risk/reward, I don't see why they wouldn't consider it.
