If you were Andersson would you say no to the Beniers deal? 7x$7 1/7M?

Anderson imo could ask for 8 on the market and teams would still line up for his services.

Conroy can just sit back and let the bidding war for Andersson go wild for the whole season. He *could* sell Andersson af the deadline, but the beauty of Andersson’s situation is we have 3 separate times we can trade him: 2025 TDL, 2025 off-season, or 2026 TDL. And that’s not even factoring in the time in between.
If I were a betting man, I think a team with a good amount of assets and has a cap bind coming up are going to be interested. Injuries happen, and the goal to bolster the roster before a cup run is a must. Bonus for the extra year in Andersson.
Which brings me to my current list of teams that *should* be interested in #4’s services:
Dallas: Bourque is a position of strength with Johnston/Hintz already down the middle, they can afford to trade him
Carolina: Burns is getting old, Slavin needs a new partner
Jersey: This one I barely thought of, do they grab the defender with a potential Nemec injury and Hamilton aging?
Vegas: reunite with Hanifin, Vegas continues to trade future 1sts? Vegas won’t have cap to extend Theodore.
Toronto: If they’re willing to part with Cowan, Knies, 1st(s), does Brad finally pony up?
Buffalo: wouldn’t mind a Byram or Powers trade. Would even add to get Powers. Either D would be a great LD option down the road for Parekh
Detroit: Andersson would be the perfect middle pairing D behind Seider
I could go on, but we definitely don’t need to rush it and Conroy will get what he wants. I bet he understands the glaring need for a top end center prospect or center with promise.

Keep:
Backlund
Weegar
Sharangovich
Anyone under 27
Can’t Trade:
Huberdeau
Trade: Andersson
Coleman only if there is a good offer
Same for Kadri
Coleman and Kadri, because of their ages and recent seasons, would have to be traded while the value is at a high. I’d say keep one and trade the other.
Vladar

I also am having a hard time believing that a GM would offer anything for Kadri without retention (and the remaining term is too long for the Flames to consider retaining).
34 years old with 5 years left is very difficult to swallow for any contending team. Contending teams can generally just sign guys like Kane and Duchene (Kadri earns as much as them combined) and with better term.
Coleman, I think can actually be traded for a haul. Especially since retention would make more sense.

I could see a young close to contending team doing it. Kadri has shown he can still produce up to his current contract and he clearly helps younger players develop.
In 3 yrs when he's maybe a 40 - 50 point player a 7 million contract is gonna be closer to what a 4 - 5m aav is today.

If there was a trade to unload Kadri without retention, I would hope that Conroy explores that.

What about a team like Chicago, Hall coming off the books this year at $6MM. I do think Kadri brings a compete level that is a good example to young players.

Again I cannot confirm via my source but there’s definitely significant interest.
I personally feel like he starts the year in CGY at the very least, but the rumblings indicate it could be on the horizon? Not sure personally how I feel about it, I’d assume we could get quiet a good package.

This is a massive bummer for me. Sigh.

It's kind of a bummer when a really good likeable player wants out. It feels kind of personal in a way.
But really if you take a step back, if you're in Anderssons shoes, a top defenceman in the best league in the world, who is entering the prime of his career, staring at a lengthy rebuild,
Wouldn't you want out too?

Maybe seeing Calgary isn't handing out retirement contracts like candy anymore, at least not right now. So it kinda makes sense.

Yeah, I have no ill will towards Razz for wanting out. He's the last of the 22 core that wasn't named Backlund who's been tenured here longer than anybody not named Conroy.

Tampa would make a lot of sense for Andersson just they are in a tough cap situation with no one to offload.

Yeah, I get it from his perspective. If he is not in the long term plans, he probably wants to go to a team where he can get situated sooner and work towards getting some tenure where he would be in the long term plans.
From the Flames perspective, it also makes sense because you might be able to get more for him now.
I like Andersson and don't want to see him go, but it probably makes sense to just do it.

Something with TB around Andersson for Geekie would be very good.

If Andersson asks for a trade, it at least ends the debate on whether or not we should keep him around as leadership for the kids. Easy peasy, lemon squeezy- we’ll get a haul for him I’m sure.

The Andersson to Tampa ship sailed when they traded Sergachev for Moser. That trade and not re-signing Stamkos fixed their cap issues, and their roster is essentially locked-in for the next two years.
Plus, Tampa doesn't really have any assets and there is little chance of them trading Geekie, who also addresses their organizational weakness at center, for a 2/3 dman like Andersson.
The Flames can do better than a late '26 1st + B-tier prospect (Gauther/Howard/Huuhtanen) for Andersson.

Would love to be as strategic as possible with an Andersson trade. Out of all the players traded during this teardown, he should be the most valuable asset so hopefully he returns the most.
If the trade is to a team like a Tampa who has next to no high-end prospects (assuming they won’t trade Geekie), I would want the trade to be pick-heavy with limited protection on any first round pick(s) - would obviously be lottery-protected but I would hope for it to not be top 10 protected. I’ll throw some potential returns that I would hope for based on the team - keep in mind, if it seems like too high of a return, I would have the flames add other players to the trade to make it work (a retained Coleman/Kuzmenko for example) or take bad a bad contract (if it’s less than 2 years long):
Tampa: 2025 1st round pick (top 3 protected) + Conditional 2026 2nd round pick (becomes a 1st round pick if Tampa makes it past the 1st round pick 2026) + 2025 2nd round pick
Colorado: Calum Ritchie + 2025 1st round pick (top 10 protected)
Dallas: Mavrik Bourque + 2025 1st round pick (top 10 protected)
Carolina: Bradley Nadeau + 2025 1st round pick (top 3 protected) + 2025 2nd round pick
Florida: 2027 1st round pick (top 3 protected) + conditional 2026 2nd round pick (becomes a 1st round pick in 2026 if Florida makes it past the 1st round in 2026) + 2025 2nd round pick
Boston: 2025 1st round pick (top 3 protected) + 2025 2nd round pick + Conditional 2026 2nd round pick (becomes a 1st round pick if Boston makes it past the 1st round in 2026)
Toronto: Easton Cowan + 2025 1st round pick (top 10 protected)
LA: 2025 1st round pick (top 10 protected) + 2025 2nd round pick + Conditional 2026 2nd round pick (becomes a first round pick if LA makes it past the 1st round in 2026)
Vegas: 2027 1st round pick (top 3 protected) + 2028 1st round pick (top 10 protected) + 2025 2nd round pick
Detroit: Nate Danielson + 2025 2nd round pick
Buffalo: Konsta Helenius + 2025 2nd round pick + 2025 3rd round pick
New Jersey: 2026 1st round pick (top 3 protected) + Conditional 2027 2nd round pick (becomes a 1st round pick if New Jersey makes it past the 1st round in 2027) + 2025 2nd round pick
Ottawa: Carter Yakemchuk + 2025 2nd round pick + 2025 4th round pick
Utah: Tij Iginla
