At this point, the reason why Calgary is trading him is that he wants to be traded. If that's true, re-signing him isn't even part of the problem – he'll just go to free agency.

Seattle would be a good place for Andersson,

To Seattle
Andersson (50% retained)

To Calgary
Catton
Gourde

Gourde probably has the Flames on his no trade list. Fixes Seattles cap issue and gives Calgary an A prospect.

Or perhaps Toronto,

To Tor
Andersson

To Calgary
Reaves
Robertson
Cowan

As usual, big grain of salt.

Pagnotta said recently that before they picked up Broberg, the Blues were working hard to aquire Weegar, and that the Flames are willing to listen to offers for Weegs.

No surprise, but he also said Conny is listening to offers on Huberdeau, Andersson, and Kadri.

There’s nothing Toronto has that we’d want.
I don’t see any real potential in Cowan, he struggles when competition gets tough/stronger teams.

Reminds me a bit of Nic Petan, dazzles against weaker junior teams, weak showings everywhere else. The writing on the wall for me was the WJ’s last year, he was invisible.

Robertson gets a lot of hype, but I think he’s another Phillips/Czarnik type.

Maybe but at least Robertson has produced decent numbers in the nhl...the other two are a black hole.

Yeah, looking at his numbers- 27 points last year in 56 games isn’t bad at all. I’m still not a fan though.

I'm no expert on Cowan, but he did have 34 points in the OHL playoffs; and 3 goals and 12 points in the 4-game final, from what I can tell.

I liked the chaos caused by the Broberg offer sheet. But it's not like he's a Weegar consolation prize.

I think we are being over optimistic on what Andersson is worth. He is really a second pair dman, but hope you are right.

Rasmus as a second pairing guy is capable of 10 goals and 40-50 points, he moves the puck up the ice quickly with his passes, plays a physical game, and is always a top choice on the PK. He falters on the PP and had a bad season but he's still on a very favourable team contract. He's more of a 3 pushing the top pairing than a 4 looking down.

He has tremendous value IMO

Andersson's point production the last 3 years are ranked 37, 22, 20 among d men. He has strong defensive metrics to boot. He's a first pair guy through and through. Closer to a 1 than a 3.

I doubt the kind of teams that would trade for him won't be signing him long term for cap reasons.

But I don't think that really affects his trade value.
8x$8.5M seems a bit steep.

Slavin signed for 8x$6.4M. Norris votes in 8 straight seasons and 2-time Lady Byng winner. Textbook positioning, plays 3v5, and takes 2 penalties every 3 months. The only advantage Andersson has is 2 years of age when he'll be eligible to re-sign.

The next two years are very valuable, though, I think he has significant positive trade value. Worth quite a bit for a team who needs to add a solid piece during their peak window and just let him leave if that's the price tag. Funny because now that Pesce and Skjei are gone I can see it making sense for Carolina of all teams.

Yeah I don't get why people think you need to be Makar to be a top pairing dman...32 teams

64 dmen are top pairing

And Nurse makes 9.25
Can't just use the bargains for market rate...Ras could easily get 8.5M on the market IMO (not saying I would recommend it for the team)

Yes, he does. There’s no arguing that. I think teams are striving to replicate good contracts instead of ones that are widely seen as failures.

There may be a team that would offer $8.5M though, who knows. It’s certainly possible.

its probable and almost certain

Market is the market and Calgary will get few if any discounts, it is what it is. Taking Zero penalties isn't always ideal for a dman either.

I don’t think Calgary needs the 30s of Andersson at this stage. When they’re ready to compete there are players like Pesce and Skjei that will be available.

If you were Andersson would you say no to the Beniers deal? 7x$7 1/7M?
