Monahan has suffered a bit in not getting more than a game or three in a row with anyone better than Dube and Lucic. and some combos he was put with for long stretches were brutal matched - Pitlick and Lewis especially - guys who are neither feeding him nor cashing in on his passes.

I think the difference is Ruzicka has buried some of his 5-on-5 chances and Monahan shoots at the goalie’s chest. The chances seem to be coming more of late but if Monahan can’t take advantage of fourth-line match-ups and score, why would Sutter reward him with more minutes?

The Pelletier package has to be bigger than just Chiarot. If the Habs are the aggressors here there's no reason why we can't do much better than that.

Man there just continues to be a ton of smoke around Chiarot to the Flames. The Flames sure seem to be interested in him. Makes you wonder if they are trying to work out an extension with him before acquiring him because they don't want to give up too much for just a rental.

I don't know. Seems to me the media thinks we need a depth defenseman with bad metrics.

I can't see Pelletier being a part of any trade. We just had a thread about this, the Flames talked to Pelletier's agent about how they are not interested in trading him and he is a big part of the future:

Not gonna happen without a SERIOUS add from Montreal.

With the reported "soft" market for rental Dmen, it makes zero sense that Pelletier would go the other way in a deal for Chiarot. Unless it's part of a much bigger deal.

Chiarot as a rental? Isn't that worth a 3rd? Late 2nd at most. He's not that good.

I didn't get the sense from watching Insider Trading that there was anything new on Flames and Habs, or that things were closer. LeBrun even conceded he wasn't sure if Flames were sold on letting go of Pelletier.

New from LeBrun. Same old, same old.

“As I reported a few days ago, the Flames remain interested in Chiarot as well, and prospect Jakob Pelletier is of serious interest to the Habs — but I’m not sure Calgary would ever move him or not.”

I struggle to find a way to move Pelletier to Montreal. Monahan and Pelletier for Chariot, Lehkonen and Joshua Roy? That would be the kind of overpay I would look at.

Making the Habs top D sit as the 7th defenseman would feel pretty good, too.

Chiarot is incredibly overrated. I really don't want to overpay for him and I'd laugh if a team coughed up a 1st or good prospect. If the Flames do I'll cry.

I think Treliving is dead set against giving up high picks for rentals.

I agree, this is why I posted what I did earlier in the thread. If the Flames are after Chiarot they are probably only willing to give up the assets if he agrees to an extension.

I'm not a fan of Chiarot by any means. But I also wasn't a fan of Zadorov or Gudbranson either.

Pelletier is as close to a blue chipper that the Flames have that's, arguably, NHL-ready.

While not a true franchise player, he's a really nice piece that is developing beyond expectations. And who knows where he tops out down the road.

I think a lot of teams would be interested in him, which is why I'd be reluctant to see him go.

And to extend you probably need to give him a raise which would look just goofy in their D structure. Zadorov for a year at that salary -OK. But a 30 year old third pairing guy at that salary for multiple years? Nah.

The Flames simply HAVE to have some under $1M guys in the lineup next year. And Pelletier is as likely as anyone to be one of them.

I've heard tell of a healthy scratch for a dog house player tomorrow. Let's see if it pans out.

Just call up Pelletier, bench Ritchie, Richardson and sometimes Lewis.

Acquire Braun if you want more depth on the backend.

That's it.
