Pick a team in the offseason and hope you win a cup?
or
Sign 1 year deals with Calgary where you are reported to be building a home, and then get traded at the deadline each year to a top contender?
|
And have that top contender team be Dallas once again and this time we get Stankoven/Bourque.

Would not be surprised if Flames preferred 2nd rounder + Grushnikov, over a late first

Could be a little bit of spin from the Flames camp but will be interesting to see how it shakes out in 5 years assuming Dallas offered their 1st

Some people would have sprinkled in a couple more commas, but that is a matter of personal taste.

Thanks! I was sure it was bad enough for a temporary CP ban. Or, at a minimum, a paddling.

If sentence structure was a reason for temporary banning, this forum would need to expand its penitentiary significantly.
I call dibs on the end cell.

Could have been 1st plus the conditional 3rd (maybe make conference finals instead of finals) versus 2nd + Gru + conditional 3rd (make finals)
Who’s to know for sure? I’m like Conroy, seems to be every scout loves the prospect, the player himself knows what he is and what he could become, could help now. I can understand why they went this route, hopefully it works out!

Yeah I think that has to be a bit of a weird quote contextually.
I would guess it was never a 1st + 2nd on the table from Dallas.
My guess would be a late 1st vs 2nd + Greshnikov...and I have no issues with the Flames valuing the two assets instead of just the late first.
Generally 2 2nds would be more value than a late 1st in a trade going on trade value charts.

Why not?
They've seen the player play and must also have a good internal list for what is going to be available in this year's draft.
If they put those appraisals together and see that Grush is better right now than the players they project late into the first round in the next draft, then you take Grush every time.

Yeah my read is "late 1st" v "late 2nd plus Gru".
IN this draft I think the plateaus probably say take the latter.

Nah, for this draft, I'd much much rather just have the 1st.

Why? Because you don't? You think Conroy would lie about it? (why not just say something else)

I do like the philosophy of getting almost-ready prospects though. They're further along in their development, and if the Flames see something in Gru, then let's see how this plays out. Best case scenario is that we eventually get a Tanev replacement in him.
