Pretty good game handled by Ward.

Any adjustments you guys would make for game 2?

I feel like Ward himself was listening to us. With Talbot and Bennett at third line center.

I'm too excited and blinded by the win to notice negatives. I think we have all been looking for a win for a long time and its time to relax and enjoy it with everything thats been going on.

Continue to focus on the PP which was good and give it some added reps in practice. The Jets will start the next game running around taking penalties due to the media circus created by their coach and Calgary can quickly put the game out of reach with 2 or 3 PP goals to start.

How very bizarre. I am in the Vancouver region and watched the game on my TV from start to finish.

There should not be any blackouts for any of these games on Snet.

Looks like #Flames forward Sam Bennett will centre third line. Fourth line looks like Rinaldo-Ryan-Rieder. And Mark Jankowski sits Game 1.
Unfortunately Jankowski is not a good enough player notwithstanding how folks see Him as a penalty killer.
On a game by game view any of the Flames other options for the line-up give the team a better chance for success.

I would not be unhappy given what we have seen as fans if Jankowski never plays another game for the team. I do not hate the guy he just is not a fit or does not still understand how to elevate his play.

If he proves me and others wrong in future and at some point he becomes an impactful player that would be great.

I noticed Mangiapane playing on the PK last night and playing well. That’ll make Jankowski even more redundant. It’s a shame, i thought he had a great season the year before and was poised for a breakout. There’s some obvious skill and talent there but the lack of assertiveness just kills him.

I think he’s been hearing for too long that he’s a long term project and it’s gotten to his head to take things slow.

I think it's much simpler than that. He was essentially traded to the Leafs with Brodie and it took all wind put of his sails. Theres no way his play could just fall off a cliff unless he just lost all interest in playing for the team.

Treliving's biggest annoyance last summer is that he couldn't ship Jankowski out in that deal or in another deal last summer. He knows full well that Jankowskis season last year on the PK was a pretty big fluke, and to be able to sell high on him was going to be larceny.

This year, the fluke didn't return, and, I think the wind was out of his sails not because he didn't feel wanted, but because he assumed he would just be better than last year by simply just showing up again.

The Brodie Kadri trade happened over a year ago. If Jankowski hasn’t found some mental fortitude in the last thirteen months, with everything that’s happened, he’s too mentally weak for the league.

Which has been his problem since Day 1. Because he should be dominant.

SNW is never available in Vancouver if I recall correctly, but the games are always available on one of the other SN channels (SN360 or SN1), if not SNP.

In pacific zone and watched on SN W no problem. But other channels weren’t an option to start because Habs Pens was still on.

I was using Shaw free range or whatever they call it now. Hopefully the next few games don’t have overlap with the East or they remove the ridiculous regional restrictions.

Normally 7 penalties might not be a recipe for success.
Although maybe it is. Since it worked last night.

The combination of rough play + a great penalty kill might be pretty effective.

I think that played a part in his decline, but I think it also starts earlier, with his inside track to 3rd line centre disappearing with the signing of Ryan and Peters. I think his self confidence took a hit, and his performance on ice became too tentative. This might have been fixed by a different coaching approach. But both explanations still leave some of the onus on him to play a more aggressive game. As someone who kept hoping he’d live up to the promise and progress he showed in the AHL and call-up to the Flames, it’s time to admit it’s unlikely he’ll be anything more than what we’re seeing now. Doubtful he’ll get a contract offer for next season.
