Dumb move by Jose but that's also an ump on a power trip. Fans are paying to see the players - not you.

Arguing balls and strikes. Ump was the one that escalated it though.

Bautista showed him up on a pitch that was marginally inside. Dramatically leaves the box shaking his head. He needs to know when to shut his mouth at key point in the game, but he just kept beaking. He obviously has a shorter leash due to history too.

I might be in the minority, but I actually agree with Zaun on the ejection. Bautista did nothing to the ump, he didn't look to the ump when talking, he didn't stall the game. The Ump chose to engage with Bautista and then they talked, then finally in the batter box he ejected Bautista.
In saying that Bautista needs to keep his emotions in check.

It's not the umps job to engage with players on a discussion on strikes and balls, though. If your an ump, who cares if he leaves shaking his head, just make sure you do what your paid to do.

Would be nice if that's how it actually worked but it doesn't and Bautista knows that.

He showed up the ump by leaving the box and walking away from the situation? Seems like that's exactly what he should be doing in that situation. Either way, why should anyone care if he shows up the umpire? We are watching to see Bautista play not some hothead umpire.
Bautista attempted to walk away from the situation and the umpire responded by losing his mask and walking up to home plate. He came looking for an argument, Bautista gave him one and he booted him for it. Completely unacceptable. If he stays behind the plate with his mask on nothing happens.

Jose Bautista gets mad at an ump and gets thrown out. This almost never always happens!

Jose has earned himself a reputation; now he has to deal with it.
That being said, Meals was ego-tripping hard there.

If it was anyone but Bautista, I'd be upset that they got tossed for something that minor. After Bautista's mocking slow clap to the umpire a few weeks ago, he has earned the umps' wrath. Bautista needs to shut up and do his job.

I completely agree here. Old Bautista would have been arguing the strike and not left the box. You can tell Bautista has been trying to avoid conflicts with strikes/balls calls this year (trying being the key word here). So yeah, he left the box a bit dramatically to cool off and refocus.
Does Meals have a right to feel like Baustista is showing him up? sure, he does. Does he have a right to escalate it and goad Bautista? Definitely no, when you are suppose to be the power of authority.
The fact that we know Umps names because of their reputation is not a good reflection on MLB.

Jose is better then he used to be, and yes he did say something to the Meals but he came off calm while doing so. Meals ripped off his mask and got aggressive. A couple of weeks ago Zaun pointed out the only "punishment" umpires get is not working playoff games. Umpires have become too much of the show, when they shouldn't even be part of it. MLB needs to fix the umpires, and soon.

JD going against some hometown umping. Frazier is getting pitches before the ball lands.
