I wouldn't depend on a lens hood to protect my lens. I have UV filters on all my lenses but one and that's my 70-200 L 2.8 IS. I dropped the f'n thing on a sidewalk. Now it looks a little mean, but still works great.

OK, so how do I determine which particular filter matches that particular lens?

Not sure what you mean by matching. I'd take a look at Kijiji, I see those lenses there all the time and most come with a UV filter.

You just need to know the size of the lens. They range between 52-77mm, I believe.

Thanks for the list, but I don't see that particular lens on there.

I guess I can buy it and then see what I need after the fact...

The smaller the filter the less $$$ they are.

The filter size is right on the front of the lens, beside the Ø.

Vlad... sorry I didnt check in the thread the last couple of days. I see your filter questions got answered though. I am not a filter guy myself. I like to shoot raw, and add effects after the fact with the natural images. A lot of true photographers will say thats the cheap way out, but I am not a pro.

Remember, any time you buy cameras and lenses, they are duty free. And when you shop at BH always take the UPS saver option, it includes brokerage. That lens will cost about 30 bucks to ship, and you'll get it in 2 days.

Camera bodies, filters, lenses, telescopes...etc. are duty exempt. Don't ask me.... ask the feds.

I thought that was common knowledge...lol.

Be careful though, flashes, bags, grips, cards, tripods and general accesories aren't.

Basically, if it has anything to do with the optics or has a diopter on it, it is duty free.

Just upgraded from the the Olympus E-500 to

D90
18-200mm VR1
and 55mm 1.8

very very happy and to Windsor I would consider the D90 in the mix with the d3100...it is older but you get a better camera IMO (unless you want to shoot movies)...and its discounted with the D7000 coming in.

Congrats! These were the 1st two lenses I had purchased when I bought my D80 back in 2007.

Plus the D90 has the built in AF motor and can use a higher number of lenses.

If you order from B and H, always select UPS intl. saver. All brokerage fees are included, and you usually get your stuff the next day. The most I have ever spent is $35 on shipping. You will have to pay UPS the GST, so factor that in.

With B and H though, they observe every single Jewish holiday, and are will never take orders during Sabbath hours, or these holidays. The entire staff is pretty much entirely hasidic Jews. Ordering stuff in October can be a pain because of the Jewish religious observation schedule. On the flip side, on their peripherals, it is worth the inconvenience, as the prices there, especially on lenses, are unbelievably cheap.

Bump!

Question for Canon folk. I'm looking to upgrade my 40D to a 1D Mkii N, as I found a decent deal. Has anyone used the Mkii? I like the thought of a weather-resistant, sturdy frame, the 1-series AF, the lower noise at 1600 and the 1.3x crop. The drawbacks from what I've read is the size, poor UI and LCD, inability to use 10-22mm (not a huge concern for me).

From what I can tell on forums, it's a 50/50 split between people prefering the 1D and those for the 40D.

I'm hoping I can get some more insight from some of the many photographers here.
