Eminem was the best before he got huge and sold millions of albums. After his sucess of the first two albums, he changed his flow up which made it all sound too poppy for me.
One of the best old Eminem Marshall Mather's era is the one with Xzibit.
As far as producing is concerned, Classified is miles above Em. Lyrically, not even close. I'm not sure if Shad does his own production but dude is sick on the mic. The North is saving hip-hop there's no question about that.

Definitely agree on Classified's production skills.
Classified did the beats for one of Shad's new songs, but the rest are various producers.

If music is a personal thing then why were you so SURPRISED at this thread?
Music is personal but I don't jump into a Nickleback thread and say he sucks and I'm totally surprised at the thread.
Pot meet kettle.
I'm suprised by this thread because I really don't know anyone that takes Eminem seriously anymore. Until I checked this thread...
And there are plenty of people that jump into Nickleback threads, and say they suck.... because that is their opinion. If I see an Eminem thread, and people saying he is up there with Biggie and Tu Pac, I will go in a shoot them down, the same way I would if someone was saying Nickleback is the greatest rock band alive today.
And Nickleback is a very good comparison to what Eminem is to rap. Thanks for that one.
Then you're a younging that doesn't know much. No worries. Redman is the only questionable pick on there. But thanks for playing.
Edit: Sweet jesus, is that Cam'ron in your sig? OK. That explains things.
.....note the hat.....
anyways, no your list is just filled with stereotypical "lyricists". Illmatic was ahead of its time, but since then its been downhill for him, especially after the takeover (exception: ether). Redman is great and i like him, but hes not one of the outstanding lyricists of recent time.
top 5: (in no order)
em
Jay
Joe Budden (do your research re: Mood Muzik 2 and 3)
Pac - Insane quantity to quality ratio
Biggie
Alternate: Maybe gza, rae or ghost
even some newish guys have unbelievable wordplay, Fabolous, Joell Ortiz, infact all of Slaughterhouse, Banks, Cube is definitely legend

Banks. Lloyd Banks. K, conversation over, get out. I can have a decent hip hop conversation with someone, but those bolded calls of yours are, well, at the best flat out ######ed. Eminem flat out destroys them. Kweli flat out destroys them. Hell, Pacewon kills all of them. They are utter garbage. Might as well include ICP and Lil Wayne on that list.

haha thats ok, but i would bet a good chunk of change on you not being able to name one album without consulting wikipedia on anyone of those guys, so its fine haha
although i will say i did think Budden was garbage until i ACTUALLY downloaded a mixtape of his, so i can definitely understand thinking its weak. Give it a try if your tape deck can handle ditching a talib cassette for a bit.
I agree with Cube. I know a lot of people write him off for being a "sellout" and the fact he actually has a college degree, but I love a lot of his stuff.
