So is there an actual law against parking in hybrid spots? Anyone heard of people getting towed because of it? If not, park away boys, park away.

I dont' drive a hybrid, but I don't see this as overly bothersome. It's in a company's best interest to appear green ... it's good optics. Not that the company doesn't believe in the cause, just saying that I'm sure some do it just for the appearance.
I'm sure the question has been raised, but is this even enforceable? I understand handicapped stalls because there's an obvious process to go through, but expectant mother and hybrid drives ... can you actually get a ticket for parking when you don't meet the criteria? Apologies if this has been touched on in another post.

So far as I know, there is nothing they could do except ask you to leave their property. If you refuse, they could then press for a trespassing charge. Other than for handicapped stalls, there are no traffic laws that I am aware of. And that is even assuming the bicycle guards even care in the first place.

I have no problem with parking in a handicap spot if all other spots are taken. I've only had to do it once in my life. I view them as reserved for handi-capped people until all other spots are filled up, then they're fair game.

For me, this issue has nothing to do with the environment.
Preferential treatment based on something highly affected by an economic factor or income through choice of vehicle is pure and simple discrimination.
A single mother of 5 children can't park close to the mall because all she can afford is a 10 year old minivan? Too bad for her, she forgot that the environment is more important than her family!

Home Depot has "Contractor" parking right after the handicap stalls. It's fair game for me to park in IMHO.

I had a co-worker that thought like this. He'd park in the handi-capped stall if there was no other place within a reasonable distance (according to his idea of reasonable) for him to park. The building only had one handi-cap stall. Everyone thought he was a giant ######. He seemed like the kind of guy that would come over to your house and ask to use the washroom and then not flush.
Anyway, handi-capped stalls are a legal building requirement. You get fined for a reason if you park in them. If you are not handi-capped then you have no reason to be parking in them.

That's really the thing that bothers me. I actually like the idea of giving people incentives to buy hybrids, but something like this is economic discrimination. Most people simply cannot afford new cars.
I'd be all for a rebate or sales tax break for hybrids though.
