So I was well off, the worst part was the throbing in my cheaks the next few days.

God, I'll never live down my experience. I had the sedation done, and either they gave me too much of it or I am a drug wuss. I had a horrible trip, and would definitely rough it without sedation if I did it again, no matter what the dentists said. In fact I wanted to, but I couldn't find anyone that would take me without going under, and finally Arbour Lake agreed to do it with sedation. All 4 were impacted, and basically they made hamburger out of my gums. But it was more my fault for putting it off for 13 years, and letting the problem get worse, and putting it off was no longer an option as one was severely infected and making me sick. I don't remember a thing from about 2 minutes after I took the pill until the next morning.
The nurse that had me in the pre-op room was super mega uber hot. I was having impure thoughts about her even before I took the pill. Anyway, apparently I kept hitting on her, and said some pretty awful things. They ended up having to tie me down because I was doing the same thing while they were working on me....for three and a half hours. After they were done with me my girlfriend came to pick me up, and when they released me to her, I walked back into the back and was looking for the nurse again. My girlfriend is 5'0 tall maybe 100 lbs if shes lucky, and I am about 6'1 225, so she couldn't control me. They had to restrain me again, and she had to call my dad to drive to the other side of the city and come get me. I am 33 at the time, and my dad was 67, and he literally had to manhandle me to the car using police restraining holds. I get to my parents house, and I had to take a wiz I guess, and proceeded to walk unknowingly to the basement stairs, and tumble down them. And my dad says the funniest thing he ever saw was when I was sitting on the couch, I went to reach for the remote on the coffee table and face planted in a seated position Mr. Bean style on the floor. I give credit to the old man though, he stayed up all night watching me on the couch. I woke up the next day, and felt like I was in a bar fight. I had a huge knot on my forehead, and I was bruised and battered from my stair tumble, my jaw was basically locked shut..... and I don't remember one minute of it, the entire incident was relayed to me third party.
My face, healed up in about three weeks, since they had to carve me up so bad. 3 years later I still have the odd bone splinter work its way to the surface. I did make a point on my follow up visit of profusely apologizing to the nurse, but she just shrugged it off, like it had happened before, and said don't worry about it. I did also have some major sucking up to do with the girlfriend, but she kinda understood.
I guess the lesson learned is... don't put it off for over a decade, and don't get the sedation.

One thing I found out the hard way is because you cant have solid foods dont think that pudding is a good option. It creates a suction that could pull out the clot and leave you with a dry socket and then it will take three times longer to heal and hurt wayyyy more.
To sum up....dont have pudding!!!

I pretty had smoothies the whole first day. Second day I got so hungry I just cut up steaks into really tiny pieces and just swallowed it. By day three I could start sorta chewing on one side really carefully. Just hope yours wasn't as invasive as Pylon's... that was an awesome story btw

I had all 4 done in one day, no sedation. I had it done on Friday afternoon, and figured I'd be back at work on Monday. Nope. Tuesday I was back, but basically spent the day hiding. I was eating real food again by Wednesday. 3 of them weren't too bad, and pulled out, but one he basically chipped out with a little chisle. It had started to hurt, which was why I went and got it done.

Mine were pretty badly impacted, and started growing into my jawbone. By the time I booked an appointment with a dentist I couldn't close my teeth, and was eating soup all day because I couldn't chew.
I had the local anesthetic done, and like others have said if you can handle the pushing, pulling and cracking sensations, it's the way to go. I was out in about an hour, no swelling whatsoever, and by the end of the day was eating solid foods (mainly because it was such a relief being able to chew again). Once the anesthetic wore off completely it was a little sore, but nothing I couldn't drink my way out of.

So what happens if one can't afford to have their wisdom teeth removed in Alberta?
I have all four of mine still, and have had no serious problems with them. But I've had a filling on one of them and occasionally there is a dull pain in the back of my jaw... but I am dreading a trip to the dentist only to find out I have to pay ~$2000 to have them extracted (which is what my brother paid a few years ago, mind you his were impacted where as mine are not... but my question is the same).

The short answer is that you don't get them removed. The long answer is that some dentists may have payment options available for you.

I'd recommend getting them done then. I had a dull pain, which just got worse and worse, until I finally had to get them done. It came at a really inconvenient time as well, ~3 weeks before my wedding. I'm pretty sure waiting just makes it worse.

Do whatever you have to do to get them done. Get a creedit card, find a dentist that will tale payments... whatever you have to do. You do not want to go through what I did once one becomes abcessed. It sucks.

I had all 4 done in one day. Went the sedation route and didn't have any issues with it. I remember waking up post-op and trying to talk to the girl resting in the bed beside me but all I was able to do was mumble and drool a lot. This passed within the first hour or so after waking up though.
Luckily I recovered quickly and even ate a strip loin for dinner the same night I had my surgery.

Yeah, I had the sedation as well without issues. Pylons situation sounds like a possible bad batch of drugs.....

Question, I have 4 wisdom teeth, and have at least two of them coming out already, maybe even all 4 now partially.
What's the procedure like to get done in that case? Easier, harder...etc? Anybody know?

I'm going in tomorrow afternoon to get 4 of them out. 2 of them have never come through and the 2 that did come through one is straight and one is crooked. I was told they would be giving me IV sedation (conscious sedation) and that I would likely sleep through it. A bit worried what I might be like when I wake up though.
They've been telling me for years that I should get them out but it's not something I wanted to do. Now I have a cavity next to the one that's growing in crooked that they can't get at so apparently it has to come out and they recommend doing the 4 of them.
Picked up some groceries this morning and plan on living on smoothies, tomato soup and ice cream the next few days.

I had all four of mine out years ago and was sedated. The anesthesiologist (spelling) guy was awesome. He came into the room, poked me, and said '10, 9, 8..' and I was out.
The next day there was a house party and I decided to be all macho and go to it. But I shouldn't have driven myself due to the painkillers.. I'm surprised my parents even let me go. Needless to say I fenderbendered an old propane powered truck that had no fender! Could have been pretty dangerous. The whole ordeal cost me $300 cash.

My kid is going in tomorrow for some other dental stuff (thanks meds, for the ruination), and her wisdom teeth are really bothering her. Only one has erupted and they want to wait until they've all erupted before they yank them. She really wants them to yank them now, while she's under sedation. She has to come off of her biologic for 2 weeks prior and post procedure, which is not fun in the slightest so she just really wants this all done at once. She's going down to talk to the dentist today, to see if she can convince him to do it now.

ShaneC....It's not waking up you should be worried about, the biggest concern with IV sedation is that people tend to lose their inhabitions. There's a good chance you will try and masturbate through the procedure.
Just ask them to tie your arms to the arm rest, that should help.

Be very careful using a straw for a few days afterwards. You can accidentally suck your clots out. Not a pleasant experience.
