Pick up the Calgary Sun or go to their website, and look under the archives from about 3 days ago. If your feeling frisky, why don't you write a letter to Zoo President and ask him yourself? I'm sure he would provide you with a very good reason why he would say that. A zoo is not only based on it's facilities, but also on their outreach program, conservation etc.
Give me some sources that claim West Ed has 20 million a year. Give me an explanation why West Ed's new slogan is a rip off of the Stampede. "Greatest Indoor show on earth".....check out their website if your don't believe me...lame...

Source: Guiness Book of World Records.
I can't buy the Calgary Sun, and their website does not have archives. I tried google as well. Now it's your job to provide a source, or you're just spewing BS like usual.
LOL @ "Have you seen there new state of the art, world class African exhibits?"

Bourbon street has a great collection of restaurants.
At one time, we even had the Hard Rock Cafe....
Funny, Julio's Burrio is doing so well, you guys in Calgary opened one.
|
Restaurants that can be found (including clones) anywhere in Canada, from what I can tell. Julios, Hooters, Moxies, Spaghetti Factory, Red's, Tony Romas. Wow, what a great collection.
You're attatching Edmonton pride to a Mexican restaurant now too? Get real.
|
Yeah, Red's and Julios are found anywhere in Canada
Ditto for the Fantasyland hotel restaurant.
That Mexican restaurant is very popular from Calgarians and Saskatchewanians coming into that mall. [/b][/quote]
I said including clones as a catch all - you know, places like Schanks and Red's that can be found anywhere in Canada. Or decent sized Mexican restaurants that can be found in major cities.
Hold up, let me find a link for you...

As well Sundeep, I have also been to San Diego, and by no means is the Calgary Zoo anywhere as good as San Diego, but that is why I said TOP 5....Not #1.....top 5 means we are in the same realm....Top 5 means we have a damn good Zoo!

Top 5 is a very very subjective thing.
Second, it depends on who says it. Someone from the States or just a geek in a Calgary corporate office who is biased like you.

Now that's funny. You're making fun of the Stampede, while defending a mall with a hotel and roller coaster in it? "Pack your bags honey, we're going the MALL".
C.O.P. is a Canadian olympic training center, home to CODA (Canadian Olympic Development Association), and hosts world class events like Bobsled/Luge/Ski Jumping/Mtn Biking/Snowboarding world cups. Not to mention draws quite a few tourists year round to tour said venues, as well as eat at the first rate restaurant at the top. You didn't see the Amazing Race last year? The episode that was held in Calgary? That was COP.
It's also 4 blocks from my house, and I hit it up year round, as it has one of the biggest snowboard parks in the Rockies, and one of the biggest downhill/freeride mountain bike parks east of Whistler. Last I checked Rabbit Hill was just a little behind in those regards.....so was the mall.
While West Ed clearly outdraws Eau Claire, I'm saying that to me even something as small as it has more to offer than West Ed does. Hey...at one point it even had a Hard Rock I should mention most NHL teams stay at the Sheraton Eau claire when in town, so they must be doing something right (that or it's a few blocks from the peelers....we'll never know). Although I'll admit I have no idea if the Flames stay in the French Polynesian theme rooms when playing the Oilers, so maybe they're equal.
I don't wear rouge glasses, I hate the Stampede probably more than I hate West Ed. I usually go on holidays due to the ######ed amount of tourists that come out here and act like idiots.

People would rather go to a entertainment complex, instead of a pathetic little rodeo.
Be honest - how many people actually care about Bobsled/Luge/Ski Jumping, etc?

Your telling me "Guiness Book of World Records" is a credible source? Come on man. I'm a major in History and we look at proper sources. Guiness book is nothing more then a popular book. It's there to make some money. Nothing in it has any credibility, and nothing can be taken as fact. Provide me some proper "scholarly" sources for your proof. Guiness is worth crap written on paper. What a clown....you actually take that book seriously? You actually enjoy reading about some freak with 10 meter long toe nails?

Guiness Book of World Record does not make lies.
20 million is a very likely accurate number.
My point is proven though - you're just another typical Calgarian who'll never give credit where it's due.

Nope your right. Guiness doesn't make lies...It's clear as stone. Do you believe everything you see on TV. Do you think the Simpsons are real? I believe in flying pigs. Last I heard they were on display at West Ed....what a fool....who here in this forum believes that Guiness is a proper book, used by many highly intelligent people as a resource?

20 million people annually and international tourists care about that mall.
If government money is used to help restructure it, doesn't that speak for itself how big of a tourist attraction it is?
|
Ever heard of a white elephant? Letting it go under after pumping millions of taxpayer money into it to build the thing would be political suicide. The reason that monstrosity was built was to increase tourism in Edmonton, and without it, you have no industry. Therefore no reason for people to come north.

More people care about those sporting events than shopping, that's for sure. Or do they have live broadcasts, with play by play announcements whenever people board the roller coasters? I must have missed those the last time I was there.

...doesn't make Bourbon Street (WEM Style) look that good, eh? All it is is clone type restaurants....a big boooring from me.
Truth be known, you haven't proven that WEM is better than anything in Calgary. All you've proven is that it's pretty damn big and that a bunch of people go there - not that it's better. Nickelback has sold millions of albums, does that make them better than a lot of the other bands out there?
...I don't think I'll be going anywhere. I'm having fun with this.
oh, I think this is an appropriate time to drop this article from December '04. Enjoy. Link

Like I said, there's NOTHING in Calgary that's comparable to West Edmonton Mall. Hard for you to realize that, because you're a Calgarian, so understandable.
The only reason Calgary gets ANY tourists is because of Banff.

WEM is not just an ordinary Mall, it's a TOURIST Mall. Because you Calgarians who have visited it 100 times, and don't like it as much as you did your first time, doesn't mean people across the country doesn't.
Find me any complex in the world that has this:
