AL wins 4-3 in the 15th on a sac fly by Michael Young that brought in Justin Morneau on a close play at the plate.

Great game, especially the defense.
It is a little ridiculous that we have a thread for the HR derby, but not one for the game?

Don't you wish that the NHL allstar game could be a tenth as good as that game was last night? Man, what a game, they actually have pride for it and are trying out there.

just got a question, to have it get a tie, one team just has to run out of pitchers? or what are the conditions for it to be a tie?

There can't be a tie. They're saying today that if it went to the 16th then Longoria or Drew would have pitched.

The tie a few years ago was a total debacle.
It is why they decided to make the ASG mean something (home field advantage in the World Series), after the backlash that occurred from the tie.
Baseball is a bit easier to have an all star game. It isn't a contact sport (Peter Rose demolishing Ray Fosse notwithstanding).

I don't know how an all star game tie is a total debacle. At least nothing compared to the debacle that last night's game almost became. Playing for something as important as home feild advantage is a total joke. Allow the players to have fun out there, and get all the players that earned the right to be there a chance to play in the 9 innings.
Make up some special all star game only rules for extra innings, such as teams are allowed to substitute a certain number of players back into the game if the game goes extra innings.
We almost got to see guys who haven't pitched since little league pitching against the not-quite-stars of MLB. So exciting.
IMHO, end all star games after 11 innings, no matter what, if you absolutely must have a winner, invent something like the shootout is in hockey, a little skills competition, that's fun to watch, a will determine a winner quickly. And make it a game for fun again, none of the "determine home feild advantage" stuff.

the home field advantage thing was put in partly to make it more fun for the people who matter: tha fans. Who wants to see it turn into the BS pond hockey thing that the NHL game is? It's plenty fun for the players.

I want to see the best in the league taking each other on and actually competing. I never watch the NHL all-star game because it means nothing and nobody cares about it.

I agree with you on the NHL All star game being sub-par, but, IMO, awarding home field advantage is much too big a prize. Offereing a cash reward to the winner should suffice. The last thing we want to see is someone getting hurt at an all-star game. With the MLB All-star game the way it is now, someone is eventually going to get hurt, and that is unacceptable.
Having an all-star game end in a tie doesn't mean that the teams weren't trying hard, nor does it mean that the game wasn't entertaining.

I was thinking this too, however, it would be fairly dangerous to ask a pitcher come in a second time, especiallly when most are already on 2 or 3 days rest

This happens in real games sometimes though

One of the great things about baseball is you play until there is a winner. In the end neither team can make an excuse (ala the shootout). The All-Star game is fun, for the fans, which is the point.

Ichiro rules. He shows that you don't have to be a roided up monster to be an effective ball player.

Yankees are on a tear. Winning all 5 games since the All Star break and 9 straight at home. Robinson Cano's hot bat (12 for 23 since the break) has really helped the Bombers offense.

The Yankees seem to start slow every year but find a way to put it in gear after the break. They'll easily chase down the Rays and get the Wild Card....they always make the playoffs.

And they just swept the Twins. Interesting to see if they can win on the road. They start a 3 game series vs the Red Sox at Fenway on Friday.
