And for some people it's more difficult than for others. Part of it is the work you put in to it, but I also think some people just have a better aptitude for it. It seems like the difficulty gradient between Finnish and English is particularly hard.

How much English did he need when he was with the Oilers?

"Pass puck to Connor."

"Where is pizza."

"Kleenex? No thank you."

"Sorry officer. I thought this was urinal."

That's what he gets for taking cues from David Staples.

On top of everything in Edmonton, I do remember some noise about McDavid telling the coach that he doesn't want Puljujarvi on his line ever. Not sure if that rumour was ever true or not, but if so, shows you exactly how difficult it must have been for him to adjust, never mind develop.

Which is to say that Laine is marketable beyond his on-ice abilities, immediately upon being drafted

He may not have learned a lot of English while in Edmonton but he did learn this:

Edmonton ei ole jumala.

Pittsburgh puts Jesse Puljujarvi on unconditional waivers for the purposes of contract termination.

I assumed he had a deal in Europe for the rest of the year, but he signed a PTO with the Charlotte Checkers (Florida's farm team)
