Anyone who doesn't have Deadwood in their top 3 is simply wrong. In general. About everything. Not just TV shows, I'm saying they can no longer be trusted in everyday life.

Ohhh!!! Really good call! One of my absolute favourite shows!!

I went into it with such low expectations, re-casting Hannibal Lector? I thought it was going to be horrible.

I've seen all the films, read all the books and I thought it was going to be terrible. But having consumed all that content I had to watch it.

And I LOVE Hannibal. That was such an amazing show.

I constantly get blown away when I do re-watches.

"They showed this on Network TV??"

Ohh...how I wish it'd been saved by HBO or something and 'shackles off' how amazing that would have been.

The only drawback with Hannibal was having to tip-toe around IP rights. If they'd had 'Carte-Blanche?' I cant even imagine what that show would have been like!

Archer is in my top 10. Also Veep and Arrested Development. The writing on those three shows is the sharpest in the history of TV for me.

The rest of the list would be in no particular order:

Sopranos
The Wire
Breaking Bad
Better call Saul
Justified
Homeland
Band of Brothers
Generation Kill

It was good off the hop but went downhill

I will say John Lithgow did a good job that one season being a character you hate

(The books went downhill as well, but differently. There was one that tried to explain things, and it was frankly just silly)

For anyone interested, Dexter is getting both a prequel and another sequel, with Michael C. Hall set to return for the latter.

They really milked that idea. I just don't know if the concept really justifies an 8 season main show and 3 spinoffs.

I get that but I found it a mind numbingly fun show. I watch it all the time and never get bored. Its a simple formula and sometimes that's all I need. Loved the banter and 1 liners. Plus its a complete quote fest.

You can say this about almost any 80's/90's show. Which i could mention a ton that i completely enjoyed (Magnum PI, Simon & Simon, Law & Order, etc...)

Not everything has to have a ton a meaning to enjoy.

The prequel sounds interesting, and actually something I hoped they would have done earlier. But given how New Blood ended I'm not sure another sequel is the right idea.

New Blood wrapped things up better than the OS, but not by much.

The 9 seasons of Dexter we have would be a top show of all time if it was distilled down into 5, maybe 6, seasons.

There were flashbacks almost every episode of his father teaching him to be a serial killer. They explained the backstory pretty well. They even had a season devoted to a killer that directly involved his backstory.

I guess we could see some hijinx from this first few years, when he had no idea what he was doing? But we all know he doesn't get caught in those first few years, or do anything that really rattles him.

I mean fewer seasons. We got 9 (8 plus the recent sequel). The whole thing should be 5 seasons, 6 at most.
