Many have already been said. WKRP, Community, Sopranos, BCS, BB… Superstore would also make my list.

Given our demographics, I'm quite happy there are far fewer mentions of Barney Miller and Laugh-In than I was expecting.

FWIW, I can say with 100% certainty Matlock, Murder She Wrote, Perry Mason, and All in the Family would make my 70-something mom's top 10 list.

Ask her for the rest of the list, share it, and we can debate its merits.

Night Court

Quote:
'Night Court' (1984). Harry Anderson as the unorthodox young judge, plus a top-notch supporting cast and smart scripts kept the show going for nine seasons. John Larroquette's Dan Fielding, a snarky, sex-obsessed prosecutor, won the Supporting Actor Emmy four years in a row. While there were some cast changes over the show's run, the theme by Jack Elliott stayed basically the same. It has the same jazzy flavor as 'Barney Miller' (written by Elliott with Allyn Ferguson).

Everybody can’t be your dad, that’s not possible.

The forum could, I suppose, be old enough that lots of people met some gal many years ago at the same keg party though?

Actually I used to watch Matlock because my dad loved it, and I quite enjoy it.

The Wire
Sopranos
Breaking Bad
all genuinely great

Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea
so bad it was good

Brooklyn 99
funnier than hell when it was on a roll

but nobody acknowledges a truly great moment in Canadian TV…

I saw quite a few episodes as a kid since my parents watch it, much as people make fun of it really for light entertainment there was nothing wrong with it.

I totally forgot about the Pretender, I enjoyed that show. The other one I realized I'd forogotten is Person of Interest.

Top ten t.v shows eh.

Brooklyn 99
Sopranos
GoT
Rescue Me
Ted Lasso
Fresh Prince
Muppet show
O.G Battlestar Galactica
X files
Fallout

H.m to:
Space Battleship Yamato (best 80s cartoon I watched growing up)
Unsolved Mysteries
Rescue 911 with William Shatner
And the guiltiest pleasure t.v show ever: Big Brother.

OMG!!! How can anyone forget Night Court. I feel shame leaving that gem off the list. It's my damned ring tone afterall. Slappiest bassline ever.

Edit #2. Holy sweet baby Jesus Deadwood. Another top ranked tv show ever.

I'll say this, Rescue Me isn't getting anywhere near the love it rightfully deserves.

I had to bail on that show after the 5th season. Something about it being so locked into that mid-2000s FX style of program just wore me out.

The first 2 or 3 seasons were pretty good, though.

- Quincy ME - The original CSI!

Man...those small, sleepy Northeastern Coastal towns were just a grim nightmare of crime and villainy in the 70s. Now we just have Boston.

I liked it for a bit, it definitely jumps the shark and further, it was very clearly not designed to be binged. If you watch a bunch of episodes in a row you see the same formula played out over and over and over and you just get sick of it.

Especially as it eventually deviates away from the Legal cases (which are interesting) and veers more towards Corporate positioning and backstabbing which is boring.
