After a rough start to this season, this club has swagger, depth and goaltending that has their chests puffed out in a fashion unseen in Calgary in over a year-and-a-half.
"We're feeling it," said Nazem Kadri.
“We feel like we can beat just about anybody if we are on our game - we’re showing that of late and we’ve beaten a lot of good teams.” - Nazem Kadri, whose club returned to Calgary with 5 wins in a 12-day trek where they played seven games in seven different cities, spanning four time zones and almost 10,000 km.
Play off or not that was a fun game to watch. The team looks very competitive with crisp passes connecting from defence to offence. Excellent neutral zone defence disrupting Vegas’ entry.
Goalman was awesome. And Zary, what else you can say about his hockey IQ and skills? Not flashy but smart and get things done.
I'm excited to watch our UFAs walk for nothing in the summer.
I'm pretty sure Conroy is not going to let that happen. He has already said he won't let that happen. If the Flames are still battling for a playoff spot near the trade deadline Conroy may look for prospects that are closer to being NHL ready.

He can still kind of do both, like Nashville last year. Shoot for a WC spot but still dealt Ekholm for a 1st+. Trade Lindholm & Tanev as we have Coronato lighting up the A, Pelletier recovering & Kylington getting back up to game speed. Trade or buy out Vladar, Wolf needs to be the full time back up, but this really can wait until the offseason. Re-sign Hanifin.

It's amazing that the Flames beat some of the best team thus far but can't beat a team like Hawks. Guess in the end, they win against the top teams and lose to the non-playoff contenders - right smack dab in the middle! LOL

While they ultimately lost all these games, the Blackhawks put up quite the battle against the Oilers, Jets and Stars over their last three games.
Theres something special about this group, i can't explain it but it feels similar to 03/04 team to me. i think if they can get a playoff spot and huska still has them playing as a unit like now, they will be a tough opponent

U dont rebuild a team that's winning and gelling with a good mix of rookies and vets., unless you mean we can't afford them. I think if the team keeps playing like this and make the playoffs they have forced connies hand. Just my oppinion. I don't think anyone thought the flames would be competitive.
I'm in the keep this roster together and try and win camp, i like this roster

What I was getting at was the won’t be very competitive minus Tanev and Lindholm. They have depth. But at some point it’s going to be too watered down.
Good on them for making Conroy’s job tougher. I’m definitely not in the camp of watching the Buffalo Sabers for 5-7 years. But I guess if they get an offer they can’t refuse they might have to take it.
Other thing Conroy might have to consider is team morale. If the coaches and players bust their asses to get in and are right there. Then he comes in and kneecaps them. It might not go over well.
I wouldn’t want to be Conroy. I think he’s going to be in a pretty tough spot.
Honestly unless he's willing to take $7M or under (he won't) then I want him traded.
I suspect on the open market this summer he might get more 7.5 to 7.875 per year. He'll be 29 when the deal starts which is 2 full years younger than Kadri plus a cap bump and expected growth for the next 4 seasons at least.
But I think you have to trade him. He's more of a 2 than a 1, and you're already committed to a pricey number 2, and an older 3 for two more years. The team has to get younger at that position somehow in the coming seasons.
It's a very hard position to fill, so I think that makes it a really hard decision.
