Because the Flames are cheap and don't want to pay 2 GM salaries at the same time.
Either way, standing pat isn't the end of the world, but it seems like a missed opportunity to gather an extra 2nd-4th round pick by moving some, or even one of the semi-peripheral players.
Better yet, cashing in on someone more significant like Toffoli could be a serious shot in the arm in terms of the ability to clear some cap room and make further deals at the draft with that capital gained, which could likely be significant in that scenario.

not a good example at all. Also the Flames could have traded Tkachuk for Eichel but he wouldn't sign there either. Flames had the assets for Chychrun, if they wanted to give up a 2023 first...likely wouldn't have gone over well.

Players often re-sign with a team once they trade for them.
Weegar and Huberdeau both re-sgned with us, you would think they wouldn't want to be here or test free agency. Worked out for them they sdidn't with the years they had but both contract were long term and reasonable at the time they signed.
Sure, some players might not want to come here but players are often available. Cap space and assets and you can be in on it. What we have now is short of elite and this team is one of the least successful teams in the salary cap era. But you are ok with keep doing the same old thing I guess.
I'd like to once have a good young star studded team full of potential for the first time since I was 10 and we were stacked in the 80s

They are really doing a number on Markstrom. It does seem like last season was more of a fluke and he is just a average goalie at best.
We need to rid ourselves of that awful contract.

I think doing nothing today is fine. If you can sell someone, cool, but you’re not at risk of losing anyone of value to UFA this summer. Lots of time.
I’m just genuinely surprised with the season we’ve watched that they’ve done nothing. They didn’t even call anyone up outside of injury replacements, did they? It’s possible that if nobody was injured, we wouldn’t have even seen Pelletier?

I expect flames to do nothing, but here are my hail Mary predictions for teams that have assets and are still looking to add.
To LA
Noah Hanifin
To calgary
Alex turcotte
Helge grans
Sean walker
To Carolina
Tyler toffoli
To calgary
2023 1st
Arseni gritsyuk
Good futures package from carllina and la pays a premium for being in the same division. Walker slots in now, and all prospects are farther along in their progress.
Still guessing nothing though.

I think Duehr and Pelletier were going to get here regardless given the seasons they were having in the AHL. They weren't ready at camp but they certainly forced the teams hand afterwards.
Not tweaking the roster externally even once throughout the season is real headscratcher....part of that is having no cap room, but part of that seems to also be too much of the safe and steady approach that ends up hurting you in the long run.

It’ll look even uglier if he decides to leave. Sitting on your hands as you burn the last year of your contract before you manage another team would be an ugly, ugly look. Hope it doesn’t turn out that way.

I think it would be more evidence that suggests this is ownership’s show.

So, still nothing from Flames? I guess the team management as shocked as us about the team situation!

I like Biz for the most part, but sometimes he just needs not to talk. The show isn't about him.

So, that was coverage for the Flames? Buttons and the Anaheim streak?
