If the Islanders can lock him up, this is a good deal for them, IMO. What else are the Islanders going to do?

well that makes this a risky deal

never go fishing for big name rentals unless you are above the playoff line, and comfortably above it

I cringe today at what we paid for Jarnkrok even though we saw a couple rounds. Can't imagine being people in NYI if they fall short and Horvat walks

Lysell: 0.81 PPG:
Eklund: 0.72 PPG
Isak Rose: 0.52 PPG
Chaz Lucius: 0.42 PPG
Oskar Olausson: 0.42 PPG

Those 5 are the only 1st rounders from 2021 playing in the AHL this year.

Raty: 0.56 PPG

Even the Islanders thought enough of Raty that they gave him 12 NHL games this year...which isn't common for a team run by Lou.

So really outside of a couple guys he's producing around where you'd expect a 19/20 year old first rounder from 2021 to produce in the AHL. It's not superstar level - but he's developing like a 1st round pick based on his two post draft seasons.
So again, middling numbers. I guess Pelletier is going to be a superstar by that measure. We will see but I see Raty as a 3rd line C.

Can it be not great for both?

I thought the Canucks could get more
Not sure what the Isles are doing...I thought they were doing okay until I looked at the games played

Canucks fans hate the deal.

Islanders fans also hate the deal.

Seems like a good trade?

Isles have a month to negotiate; if there is no deal, they can trade a pure rental to recover assets

I admit I don't follow these prospects who aren't in NA at all so will have to defer to those on CP who do follow them closely. I had no idea so many people track these kids so closely!

Well, Aatu Raty is kind of a big name because when he was 16 he was assumed to be a surefire top 5 pick. But then he fell off. As someone said earlier it's not a totally dissimilar story from Kylington but even more extreme since he was at one point thought to be a likely first overall.

Pelletier was in jr at that age

I don’t think Raty is a bluechip or anything but it’s not fair to judge him on his AHL number. Zary didn’t have good numbers on his first year also

Eric Gudbranson was 3rd overall...things change

AHL is the closest league to the NHL and he is just okay there

I kind of think Vancouver won. They got all that for 30 games of Bo Horvat?

New York could have signed Horvat for free in a few months if they wanted to. That's a lot to bet on a 20% chance to make the playoffs (via 538,) and then what? A waste of eight days against Boston?

Beauvillier had a great couple years of POs but hasn’t been in for two years and has always been a .4 PPG or so guy. He’s cheap help for a year I guess. But this is basically Horvat going away.

Just realized Horvat was a Western Conference All Star, who is now an eastern team player.

I think this is a good trade for the Canucks.

And here I was hoping they'd trade Horvat to the Bruins for a package revolving around Carlo.
