Might be the case ... but I think he has much more talent than Schwindt, who I like but projects more as a fourth-line type. They're on very different levels as prospects.

Trading a 2023 1st even if its top 12 protected is dumb for a team outside the playoffs for a guy riding a inflated shooting % and a massive career year.

The numbers say otherwise. Exactly how has rebounded very nicely Scorp? I don't see it.

Schwindt's first year pro produced at 0.55 ppg; same as Raty so far this season. Draft projections mean nothing

Weird trade by NYI. Quite a haul for Vancouver for a player who was clearly not going to be retained next year. Beauvillier is a good offensive player and the 1st round pick is a nice chips to build with. It's not like the Islanders are going to be a whole lot better next year, so if it slides it may still be a great pick. Raty isn't a bad throw in either.

Congratulations to Bo Horvat and the Horvat family. Vancouver is finally rid of another high character guy, so it's clear who is winning the dressing room battle.

I think the most likely outcome is a mid-teens pick this year, like 14-19. Not sure how good that section of the draft is projected to be... obviously it's strong at the top.

I feel like top 12 protected is actually more risky than top 10 protected. Islanders are an old team and could easily be bad in 2024

His 2021–22 season in the Liiga was outstanding.

It's a decent return for a player that wasn't going to sign, depth forward, and a 20 year old prospect that we are already calling a bust?? A first round pick in a deep draft. Who knows who wins this trade until 2-3 years down the road but both teams got what they were looking for.

If Raty becomes some version of bertuzzi and beaulevier gets dealt for a top 3 draft pick we got a winner

What are the Islanders doing? Barring a major run they are a long shot to make the playoffs so they better hope he's open to signing there long term or this is one of the more bizarre trades in recent history.

I'm not sure I really love this trade for either team. Canucks got some ok pieces I guess? The Islanders are bad so it's weird they gave up more assets for Horvat who possibly may not have a better season than he is right now. I'm expecting a Horvat signing soon, they have to.

Strange that with the trade deadline over a month away this is the best the Canucks could do? I don't see the rush to make this trade today. It's not a steal.

Though the 2024 draft isn't tracking to be nearly as good.
I would rather have the 13-15th pick in this draft than the 8-10 pick next year.

Similar to JT Miller, Horvat is having by far the best year of his career in a contract year and is likely to get paid way more than his normal production says he should.

If the Canucks flip Beau for a quality return the Canucks win this deal and they have time to do this as his contract is up after next year.

Also, if I was cheering for one of the bottom teams, I would love that my team got a deal done now rather than 5 weeks from now. This draft is worth trying to tank now then trying to get another pick added to the deal.

Tough to judge a guy who was 19 when the AHL season started on his AHL production, because there aren't a lot of 2021 Picks playing in the AHL.

Other 2021 picks in the AHL this year are:

Lysell: 0.81 PPG:
Eklund: 0.72 PPG
Isak Rose: 0.52 PPG
Chaz Lucius: 0.42 PPG
Oskar Olausson: 0.42 PPG

Those 5 are the only 1st rounders from 2021 playing in the AHL this year.

Raty: 0.56 PPG

Even the Islanders thought enough of Raty that they gave him 12 NHL games this year...which isn't common for a team run by Lou.

So really outside of a couple guys he's producing around where you'd expect a 19/20 year old first rounder from 2021 to produce in the AHL. It's not superstar level - but he's developing like a 1st round pick based on his two post draft seasons.

I'm surprised so many think this a bad deal for the Isles.
I see it as a clear win for them if they re sign him; which I'm guessing was already discussed before the trade is made.

It's fitting that the Canucks would have someone named Ratty,
