History will look back at Sean Monahan favorably. 9th gp, 3rd in GWG, 8th in Goals. 11th in points. 9 years of service.
Not Mt Rushmore material, but lots to be proud of.

I feel like every round the tread will descend in an argument about a very personal assessment.

Thanks for the reference material, Gio, as I think it frankly helps the argument for both Kipper and Fleury.
To continue the discussion with dissentowner, I disagree. Kipper has all the Flames records on teams that were good, mostly because of Kipper. I think if you put Kipper on those bad Fleury teams, they are much, much better.
For me, it then comes down to MacInnis vs. Fleury. I have MacInnis ahead, only slightly, based on hockey only. His numbers are comparable, while playing defence and while winning a cup and a Conn Smythe.

O.K. there has been a lot of talk on whether or not MacTavish has actually done a good job for us, most fans on this board are very basic in their analysis and I feel would change their opinion entirely if the team was successful.

Yeah that's 5 but Mt. Rushmore actually has room for a 5th face up there.
Sorry Lynn doesn't make that cut.

Feels like there’s a theme to some of the votes. Can’t quite put my finger on it.

Exact where did I tell anyone how to vote? I said those three were a lock imo. Here let me help you out, imo actually means in my opinion.

Separate Lanny the man from Lanny the player. What do you get? Hardly enough for Mt Rushmore.

Recall that, at the time it was created, Mount Rushmore had presidents representing different eras. Birth, growth, development, preservation. Sooooo Lanny (close enough to birth), Macinnis, Iggy and Gio.

Cliff Fletcher was the architect that made the Flames the dominant team in the NHL. Since he left, they haven't come close to the team they were when he was there. Look at these drafts:
1980: Cry, Lavallee, Konroyd, Loob
1981: MacInnis, Vernon
1983: Quinn, Bradley, Berezan, Makarov
1984: Roberts, Ranheim, Hull, Hrdina, Suter
1985: Nieuwendyk, Grimson
1986: Glynn
1987: Matteau, Fleury
He traded for Doug Gilmour, Joe Mullen, Lanny McDonald, Mike Bullard, Brad McCrimmon, John Tonelli, Carey Wilson, and others.
He signed college free agents Jamie Macoun and Joel Otto.
He deserves to be up there. Without Cliff, the Flames have no cup, no Lanny, no Fleury, no MacInnis, no Nieuwendyk, etc..

I don't see how Fleury gets ahead of MacInnis. MacInnis is very close to Fleury in points and games played, but did it as a defenseman and has the Flames' only Conn Smythe.
I also think Gio is close, maybe even ahead of Kiprusoff. Yeah Gio's not our best defenseman ever and Kipper is our best goalie, but ignore that and compare them on their individual merit. If Norris = Vezina, then it comes down to cup run participation vs. longevity and captaincy.

First off it wasn't exactly a demeaning attack ... chill.
And secondly ...

Fleury or McDonald. These two are locks imo. Not having Fleury there would be utterly ridiculous just because he has alternative views on things politically. He is still possibly the most talented player to play for this franchise and there is a reason no player has ever chosen #14. The Mt Rushmore should be the players that most impacted the team, results on ice, and being an icon related to the team.
|
Suggesting those that vote differently are ridiculous might qualify as telling people how to vote.

you can (I think) bridge the whole Calgary Flame era by going Peplinski-Fleury-Iginla-Backlund
(if you added a 5th head then with Dan Bouchard you could do the 50+ years of the Flames)

Still an obvious opinion. Show me where I said you should/have to vote for Fleury? You are confusing an opinion with a demand. Anyhow I think we are just busting balls here, no big deal.

Yeah no big deal.
But yeah saying voting differently is ridiculous is pretty close to saying you should/have to vote for Fleury.

You just quoted something that was never said so in fact the idiot here is you. You are just upset because Fleury actually won a gold medal.
