We don't really have a lot of guys to sell.
Lucic, Lewis and Richie are the only players on expiring contracts.
Backlund, Toffoli, Lindholm, Hanifin, Tanev, Zadorov all the have two years left I guess. They're all on good value contacts too, but I can't see us walking away from Backlund, Lindholm, or Hanifin.

Sutter seems to be on a ego trip after winning the the Jack Adams. His coaching and Markstrom costing this team.
Have we lost every game?

7-7-2 against a team that has 100 points is probably what you’d expect in the long run.

Playoff series generally go 6 or 7 games because it’s close between good teams and it’s 50-50.

Flames also have the 32nd PDO in the league, generally that means you are a bottom 3 team at any point in the season if you have that sort of luck

The biggest concern with this team right now should be goaltending and a distant second is player usage.

How about all 3? Just need to trade away a couple million? What about the Rooney guy that Tre signed?

I don’t know what you do, but you have to do something before the season is lost…

Run Darth Vladar for a bunch of starts? Coaching change?

It feels like Markstrom and Sutter are costing this team everything right now. The stubborn refusal to go back to the old lines, adamant that every forward plays a role. The love in with Lewis has to come to an end. Leave the 4th line guys on the 4th line.

This team is just so goddamn frustrating. No identity, no consistency.

Colorado lost 4 games 16-4.

7-7-2 is not acceptable if you have aspirations to win a cup.

I would say player usage and Markstrom are tied for #1 on the list of issues.

Did we hear about Daren Helm playing 15 minutes a game last year?

I get hate for this but don't care, I think all of this is on the head coach.

If Markstrom had a .910, rather than an .885 - he would have allowed something like 5 less goals this season. That’s likely good for 2-3 more wins.

10-5-1?
9-5-2?

Goaltending has made an absolutely massive impact on this team.

The offense isn’t going to flow like it did a year ago - but if Marky can get his #%^* together this team can still be something. You just can’t overcome goaltending when it’s in the .800s.

If the Flames were getting .900 goaltending they would have a stellar record despite by far the hardest strength of schedule

might be early to fold the franchise

We've lost a number of games this year when we deserved to win. This was not one of those games.

My long term worries are:
1. Lack of scoring skill
2. Markstrom is garbage
3. Sutter is most definitely not getting the most out of the players.

The worst part is, it's not like Lewis and Lucic are positive surprises. They have a combined 3 goals this season and making $6MM.

Add in Kevin Rooney at $1.3 MM.

Instead, if they played Zary, Pelletier, and Phillips... they would have about an extra $4.5 MM in cap space right now. That's enough to acquire a superstar at the deadline.

Really? I'd like to see some highlights showing that he doesn't check.

A few more losses and we could be mathematically questionable to make the playoffs.

I wouldn't say 'deserved to win' but I would agree that they played well enough to win.

So has lines and ice time.

No doing Markstrom has been garbage but if we score some goals we might outscore our way out if the crappy save %.

Ironic Dino likes your post when no one can do wrong even the goalie yet he blames the goalie lol.

Only Vancouver have worse goaltending. Flames and Blue Jackets are tied for second last. Flames easily could have the same record as Vancouver but have been playing good to okay even throughout this bad stretch.

dino defends the Flames, it’s a worthwhile (and needed) counterpoint to those who are hammering them (myself included).

Yeah, lines and player utilization is problematic but that also stems from (extremely) poor forward depth that needs to be addressed - but my point remains, you can’t consistently outscore sub-.900 goaltending.

Markstrom (bad Vladar) are the biggest problem facing this team.

You can’t outscore the second worst save percentage regularly. If anything the record is better than what they should have with that level of goaltending.
