I haven’t checked their cap situation, but does this even make room for Nurse’s raise?

Looks like they have about 14 million with 6 forwards, 6 d and one goalie signed

$1M with high escrow this season and high taxes might not be worth it for a guy that has a ring already and is pretty beat up physically from all accounts

I gather from the relevant bits of the CBA that cap recapture penalties would apply here. Normally those only apply to the kind of front-loaded contracts that are no longer permitted, but this would be an exception.

Basically, if Lucic retires before the start of the regular season, the $3 million he has already been paid for 2022-23 would still count against the Flames' cap for the year. The only way to make his entire cap hit go away is to trade him.

Jesus Christ, embarrassing for Arizona, the garbage team in perpetual rebuild.

I’m not sure that’s the case either but I’d have to triple check.

All articles and discussion I’ve seen is that the entire hit would go away if he retires.

There's a reason why the team isn't supported. Because they don't ever have any GM's with vision beyond perpetual rebuilding and hoping it works.

If I was a hockey fan in Arizona, I would have zero interest in that team. This trade just shows their management stupidity.

Look we got some shiny beans.

And a 6 foot tall piece of crap.

I like the fact that greasers are still paying for kassian a year after his contract ends with the 2025 draft pick.

I don’t know if I agree about their current GM. Armstrong was only hired in September 2020 and he does seem to have a plan to build through the draft and by using cap room to acquire picks.

I think he has the right vision and has them going in the right direction.

6 picks in the first three rounds this year
5 picks in the first three rounds next year
7 picks in the first three rounds in 2024 already

They had 4 in the first two rounds last year too.

That’s a lot of draft capital to use on picks or in trades.

Guenther looks great. Cooley could be the best player in this draft. And they will have a great shot at a top pick in a loaded draft next year.

Their rink situation is embarrassing but I think Armstrong has done a good job with what he’s had to work with and taking over the mess Chayka left behind.

My guess is they intend to throw the max at Matthews if he makes it to UFA in 2024 as well.

Yeah, it could be potentially brilliant. With no fans, yet somehow no pressure of having to pack up and move, he can afford to be patient.

Yeah it's Kassian think Flintstones as to how he goes about his daily routine. Someone is still waiting for a bird to indent a stone tablet to break this to him. He will figure it out 3 weeks from now that he's now in Arizona.
