Some similarities between the 1996 Avalanche and the 2022 Avs. Both teams had #13 worn by a Russian guy named Valeri (Kamensky and Nichuskin). Both teams have taken a 2-0 series lead against a team from the state of Florida (Panthers and Lightning). The 2nd game in both series were won by a 7 goal margin (8-1 and 7-0).

The Avs are 6-0 all-time against Florida-based teams in the Stanley Cup Final.

The last time there was a sweep in the Final was 1998, when Detroit swept the Caps. Oddly, that was the 4th straight year the Final was a sweep.

The last time a team had a 2-0 lead in the Final and didn't win the Cup was Vancouver in 2011.

Ahhh. So satisfying. Watching the cheater Bolts lose .....only thing better around be a broom like in 2019 when the jackets swept em.

Doing it without Kadri is even better even tho ....to bad his name will go on the cup....I'd they win.

Go AVS Go

The 2017 Penguins were up there, before Letang got hurt. They still won the cup without him but they'd need to be healthy to hang with these Avs

Definitely. Not diminishing the Avs in any way, I'm just responding to "the Flames have no path to the cup for the foreseeable future". The Avs will still be excellent, but I suspect they'll merely a contender rather than an unbeatable super-team.

Some part of me feels like they’re slow playing the Avs. Now they’ll go win four straight like against NY.

Until they lose on home ice it’s still a series.

Watched the game this morning. What a dominating performance by the Avs. Lightning were down last series too, but the Avs are a completely different opponent than the Rangers.

They were down in the last series, but those were tight games, they just got played off the ice.

Avs are 7-0 on the road this playoff. They didn't win because they were at home. They won because they were better in every facet.

So, yeah, is this gonna be a sweep? Probably not, Tampa still has all kinds of scoring power and mental toughness.

But god dammmmmmmnnnnn son, did the Avs ever bring it.

Maybe but they probably don't beat the Blues without Kadri/Nichushkin...its at least going 7 (almost did anyway)

fine line in hockey, at the deadline people were saying nobody can compete with the Panthers offensively. They scored 3 goals in a playoff series while being swept.

Just be thankful the Avs aren't in the Flames division, I will always take my chances in round 3

to be fair the Leafs also played the Lightning off the ice...they have shown cracks all year of losing a step but have pulled it out of the fire a few times.

For the Flames, the path to the Cup, is actually through Central Division's top 4 teams. Seems the Flames have a tough time beating teams in that division than any others. If anyone thinks Avs is tough, the Blues is one tough team to beat in the playoffs and probably would be in the Finals if it wasn't for Kadri's intent to hurt Binnington in that series. Then, there's are other teams like the Stars and Jets the Flames have trouble with. I can also see the Wilds and Preds giving the Flames some fits as well.
