The Flames drafting has been bad but not abhorrently so, they have had more picks in the 20-25 range than most teams and haven’t really missed with their higher picks (Bennett being the exception, and even then it is questionable. It is easy to go through a list of players ten years after the fact is that most team drafting around the same area have the same busts that fans protest against.
I think that there is a massive element of luck involved in drafting, especially in later rounds. Perhaps the best thing that teams can do is to stop spending draft picks at the trade deadline in order to make the playoffs and instead horde as many as possible over the year. Get as many picks as possible in rounds 2-3 with the expectation that they have a 85-90% chance of not working out.

Complaining is definitely part of being a fan
Imagine watching this team last year and not allowed to complain?
Imagine watching Treliving building this team and eat it up without opportunities to voice your opinion?

It continue to amazes me that some don’t understand the difference between being critical and complaining and being nothing but negative
No one was said people aren’t allowed to complain

A huge part of it is also development.
In fact, I would argue that prospect development is as important as drafting.
But it's potentially even more difficult to get right.
I think the Flames can draft goalies. Guys like Irving, Gillies, and Parsons were great out of the gate. They were probably good draft picks.
Development is where things went wrong. Like you said, a lot of it is luck. Gillies had a major injury. Parsons had other problems.

I don’t think there’s one Flames fan that out there that doesn’t want the Flames to succeed. The problem comes from how one defines success, and that fans are entertained in different ways.
Some people, mostly the so called negative fans, don’t like setting themselves up for disappointment. They are entertained by the team performing above their expectations.
Other fans are entertained by trade/speculation and line up changes. Those fans enjoy the tinkering aspect, so they can maximize the potential of the team.
Meanwhile others simply enjoy watching the game of hockey at a high level or a particular style.
So how about we all simply enjoy the product that is the Calgary Flames, each for his own reasons. Besides, you all have interesting takes on what the Flames should do going forward, why can’t you share them without trying to convince others who disagree that they are wrong?

Or more like multiple, repeated posts over the entire offseason. No matter the topic at hand I can always guess which posters will make an appearance with nothing new to add except how terrible the entire flames organization has been and will always be.

I think that's the issue that people have against certain posters. There isn't anything positive (of if they say something positive, it sort of feels like a negative) in what they post about.
You have to really hate life never to see a single ray of sunshine. It isn't all doom and gloom. Do I love this team and think it is the envy of all other teams and the NHL's top contender for the cup this year? Absolutely not.
I can still see good things. I can talk about those good things. I have also talked about the things that I think aren't good, and I also believe that Treliving should have been canned by now purely based on his playoff record. However, there is no point in saying the same thing over and over again - there are other things about this franchise that you can speak highly of.
How about something we can all agree is positive - they are back to wearing the most glorious uniforms in all of hockey.

Are you seriously trying to complain that yourself and Donkey are anything different than "nothing but negative".
I agree that label should not be tossed around willy nilly but in the cases of you two - the shoe fits.

Just don’t write rational constructive criticism. The drive by negativity will surely get this team going in the right direction more than any other option! The more “we suck” posts we get = instant cup contender.

The #Lightning opening roster submission is $6,906,616 over cap w/ 22 players (13F/7D/2G) + Seabrook/Smith LTIR, setting that as their LTIR Pool & how much they can exceed cap this yr.
This was $712 from max possible LTIR w/ Seabrook $6.875M +Smith $32K
|
Talk about cutting it close with LTIR! Source

New Kings 3rd unis, with white gloves the silver chrome helmet. I foresee a chromedome battle with the Knights this year.

We were scouting his C - Travis Zajac. For some reason decided the guy attached to Zajac's teet was worth picking in the 1st round when Zajac was taken...

The old Marc Antoine Pouliot ploy.

Janko was ranked 42 on Bobby Mac's list
People act like nobody had ever heard of him...rumor was Montreal planned to pick him in the 1st round.

I seem to recall some people here at the time predicting that the Flames would pick Jankowski. Credit to those people for the correct bold prediction.
